That is not Mega Man 💀

29:00 I haven’t been this interested in your commentary segment this much in a while. I'm not anywhere near as invested/involved with the film and writing industries as you two are, so my thoughts on the matter are a bit different as one who moreso keeps close tabs on the video game industry. Tbh, I find that the subject is more relevant to the game featured in episode 13, so I'll hold off on getting too much into it. For now, I'll just say that I do agree with your idea that entertainment companies aren't taking enough risks (though I wouldn't say that's SOLELY a result of them just being "cowardly"). Also, I don't know if Secret Level is a good example of giving new/original works a chance because: 1) Some of these episodes aren't really representative to the games portrayed (i.e. the Pac Man episode and this show's last episode. 2) Just bc an audience responds well to watching a series as a TV show isn't indicative that they'd enjoy the game. I enjoyed the lore of the Warhammer episode despite being someone who knows nothing about it, but it didn't make me feel like I'd enjoy playing Warhammer for myself, bc it gives me no feeling as to how the games actually play. 3) A lot of the IPs featured in Secret Level are those that have already proven themselves as successful. Again, I probably just see things differently since the video game industry isn't quite the same as film, writing, etc. when it comes to the risk/reward of trying to push new IPs.

26:34 If the team behind Secret Level intends to do things the same way they do for Love Death + Robots, getting follow up episodes is rather unlikely. Of all the episodes, only two in that show follow the same story. I imagine that the cooperation of the producers behind whatever games get featured is also still going to be a big obstacle. Some publishers just don't want their IPs to be adapted in this way (unless given a greater level of supervision and input, perhaps). In Halo's case, could also be that Microsoft just didn't have faith after the Paramount+ show didn't do great. So similar concerns from other publishers could prevent certain games from being included.

26:07 "Feels right up the alley of Disney or Marvel". Y'know, a lot of people would consider that an insult these days 😆.

I just got word this morning that the director (Dave Wilson) wanted to make a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossover episode. Apparently they spent “an entire weekend” writing a letter to Microsoft to make it happen, but they were turned down. A damn shame. Could’ve been real cool. Seems the getting the permission of video game publishers/devs was a real challenge during production. Wilson and Miller's team reportedly contacted Valve to do a Half Life episode, but that didn't work out either. Since you seem invested with this show's production like I am, here's the article: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/secret-level-tv-show-team-tried-to-get-a-master-chief-doom-slayer-crossover/1100-6528611/

You’ll def be hearing this a lot from plenty other than me, but the Mega Man episode is way too short! Would take an entire series in the style of that episode.
