Tier 2+ poll: Godot 4 Build.
Added 2024-11-04 21:45:39 +0000 UTCHey there guys, I'm here tody to do one of those rare polls that influences everyone who's a tier 2 patron or higher.
As you all know I'm working tirelessly to port Just Friends to the better and enhanced Godot 4 engine. This is also to foolproof the next games I can make, right now Just Friends engine is, well, only for Just Friends, no other game can use it, and I need something more versatile.
The aim is to make a whole build for godot 4, then release here HOWEVER, I've noticed how easier it is to work on Godot 4, and I want to push the change as fast as possible. But this also means some setbacks.
Right now, I'm about 80% with the engine working, but that's for the bare minimum pf the project, essentially, I have the core working, and I'm working no the new JSON Editor with the help of a friend, who's being a blessing by helping me make a code that is foolproof. With that done all I will need will be to add the main Menu and the Save/Load menu and it's essentially a working visual novel.
However, this is only the bare minimum. I still need to add the other features: Skip Feature, Message Log feature, UI theming, Gallery, Changelog, Credits, etc.
Right now though, if I keep working the way I am, updating the older version of the game, while working on the newer one, I will take three time as long to finish the build. So here's the proposal:
November will be the last month that you guys will receive a Build of Just Friends on Godot 3. December will be the first month with a working build of godot 4 only.
This month you guys will receive two builds, one of godot 3 and one of Godot 4. And from December onwards I will keep on Godot 4 Only, and I will focus on adding the features missing, such as the rest of the menus, theming etc, WHILE I work on new routes of my choosing, of course!
So, no. You won't be stuck with Godot 4 version without new content, however for a few months you may not have the current features such as Gallery and Message Log, or a Skip Button for a while. But, if I do it like this, I can finish the porting way faster, and it's a more stable, and better way of playing Just Friends, since the game will be going from 4:6 to 16:9 aspect ratio.
However, before making this change, I want your sincere opinion: Is it okay for you all to play Just Friends on a more bare-bones engine until I update each feature needed? Like I said: routes will keep coming though, I will write them WHILE I work on godot 4, however instead of updating them on Godot 3 and then having to do a full update of JSON to Godot 4 making the process super huger, I can just do it for one engine.
What do you guys say? Remember: The actual routes will be updated no matter what. What will be missing in Godot 4 are some menus and small features that will be added monthly.
