My youngest has been able to skip naps since he was a baby. My oldest however -oh boy! You KNOW when he's tired. Unfortunately the #1 thing his stubborn ass NEVER wants to do is NAP.
My tactic is to avoid the "nap" word and just suggest he lays down for a bit. If I can manage that (not easy!!) then he'll usually conk out. One time though (I think he was 5?) he came out with the punchline to this comic. One thing you can never fault him on is his honestly!
I came into this comic quite rusty, after taking a break for Dec. The ones that are based in reality can also be a bit tricky, because I have a vivid memory of how the lines were delivered. This can be useful, but it also makes it hard to think of the characters in any other way. He was mad when he said it, so I sketched it out that way for the comic. That made Vincent's face in panel 1 and 3 very similar, which I found visually boring. I moved the face from panel 3 to 1 and then got stuck coming up with something unique for panel 3. I asked J for help and he drew the more whiny face with noodley, flailing arms. It wasn't how the real line was delivered, so I had trouble getting on board with it (honestly I'm still not 100% sold) but it was funny and did solve my problem of needing something distinct. I needed to keep moving, so I settled. I think the lighting helps sell it.
