Making of "Meh"

It is near impossible to get any information out of our 7yo about his day at school  -but as soon as it's bedtime, the dam breaks and his life story comes tumbling out.  It's deeply annoying because him at the end of the day is the very best version of himself and I wish we could talk all night!  Unfortunately a) I am NOT the best version of myself at that time and b) I know he'll be a moody puddle the next day if he doesn't get enough sleep!

We figured he couldn't be the only kid like this and it would therefore make a relatable comic.  The first layout only implied there was a long story to come, but J didn't think it was selling the joke properly.  He offered to write a big ridiculous blurb and told me to carry on with the comic and just leave him a speech bubble with as much room as possible.

Initially I didn't have the parents in the first 3 panels, but without their faces, it was impossible to tell how enthusiastically they were engaging with him.  I added them (which was a butt!) and it read much better.

I used this reference pictures for Vincent's pose:

Once the comic was complete, I handed it over to J for the story.  He knocked it out of the park, although it was a little longer than the speech bubbles.  I managed to squeeze it in by gradually shrinking the text, which actually ended up making it look more like he was droning on!

(Just noticed I'm missing neat pencils stage in the animation. Sorry about that!)
