Making of "Gone Fishin'"
Added 2023-01-23 22:03:32 +0000 UTCThe first comic inspired by knowing a real life kitty -Fiasco is crazy about teaser wands and does a cartoonish little butt wiggle just before he pounces. J said it looked like we were fishing for cats, so he bought a fishing rod style wand, which in turn gave him the idea for this comic. As he was describing it to me he said they should be having a beer at the end with Joel with a bandage on his cheek. He meant in hospital, but in my mind they were in an ambulance. When I showed J the roughs, he thought them tailgating in an ambulance was perfect! :)
I had a "SPLASH REEEEE!" panel initially, but decided it was a little obvious and I could get more mileage out of showing his butt wiggles instead. Refining the lines on this one was hard because I know nothing about fishing! I had to google reference for boats, lifejackets, ambulances, fishing rods, lures and even HOW to sit in a boat and hold the pole!
When I was almost at the finishing line, I had the idea to swap panels 4 and 5. The closer up shot seemed more intense and having the butt wiggle first with less explanation was funnier.
