I played around with pushing their expressions a lot more, but the simplicity of the original kept overshadowing the updates, so I ended up just updating the character models.
Since 2019 I've also found that adding that tiny bit of height can have to huge impact on the size of the characters for 3 row comics. Bigger characters = bigger faces = more fun!

It's so fun looking back and forth to see all the little changes! At first glance they look so similar, but the new one is still so much stronger. One change I really like is how you moved his head down further in the second panel -- he looks so much like a wet cat after a bath.
