Traditional Bra at its Limits

Looking at the enormous tension on the straps and the super-taught fabric of those enormous cups, I can understand our girls thoughts that this bra might be stuffed to its absolute limit!

This bra represents that exquisite juncture where traditional design is forced to develop and adapt to a scale it can only just manage. For instance, the two huge cups are barely seperate cups at all - the gore of the bra being little more than a reinforced strip of fabric joining the two whopper hoppers together, offering no breast seperation, but admittedly, doing the job. This does help lead to one of my favourite aesthetic indulgencies in plus-sized bras, and that is where the centre-seam of the cups - the 'point' of the bra if you will - is forced outward from the chest at more and more extreme angles. Most of the concern probably comes from those highly-tensioned and arguably over-loaded straps however - the webbing for bra straps is surprisingly strong, but even this is probably reaching reliable limits. Often, it is the limited area for stitching or reinforcing, or the smaller scale of the hardware (tensioners, loops etc.) that could potentially lead to premature failure. The nature of this garment is purely functional at this size, it has a serious job to do, but I still enjoy the optimism in adding the little flower with ribbon to the front, and the lace paneling of the upper cup, in an attempt to comply with convention and make sure this bra conforms as an item of feminine lingerie.

Whatever your thoughts are, I hope you enjoy it too!
