My Hero Academia 1x4 Reaction Early Access!

Comments

I know they don't blindly read the comments anymore (thank god). But why would you even commen this. It's not an important spoiler but still something we only find out in season 2.

The Best Jeanist can manipulate fabrics and he's the best Jeanist/jean maker in the world.

Shoelace Ace

What he's wanted all his life is to be a hero, the quirk is useless (from his pov) if he doesn't get into UA

he cries every episode. I'm an emotional person but I'm not even that much of a crybaby when school gets tough

Andrew Garcia

I swear if Izuku doesn't stop crying and MAN UP soon I'm gonna start calling him Mini Sasuke. He finally gets a quirk and what does he say, "Oh no I don't have any points" You finally have the one thing you've asked for your whole life and you act like it's no big deal. We're supposed to be rooting for this kid?

Jordan Brauer

I think the thing about Izuku being so readily emotional is a positive thing :) You certainly don't see that from many shounen male protagonists. It's entirely refreshing to me at least, to have a lead that doesn't fall prey to ultra masculine stereotypes and doesn't enforce that 'boys don't cry!' shit 24/7, which i despise. Plus he is young and going through a lot.

Whim

He does, even in the dub, but it's kind of muted. They did a "yelling through clenched teeth" thing. Which, to be fair, is accurate, but it makes the actual words hard to hear.

Jill S.

I thought he yelled smash when he was punching that big robot. Couldnt hear it on dub

Koray

I think that's one of the big reasons why he respects her opinion so much and changes his superhero name to Deku later on. That and of course he has a thing for her.

Ashgar77

Had to go back and rewatch it... I think he got bailed out by Rick’s Russia joke!

I understood that perfectly fine from the anime without reading the manga, maybe it's your comprehension skills

Blackest Hippy

I also love the fact that by making Izuku cry and using his brains most of the time, and being selfless and kind all the time to everyone... What I’m trying to say is that it’s a type of masculinity that we rarely see in fiction, ESPECIALLY in the main character, it defines stereotypes in the best way, like ‘man don’t cry’, ‘man are strong, and if they rely on their brains and they’re not assholes they’re nerds’, and plenty’s more that I won’t go into detail here because I’m rambling

Alex Morelli

And he puts even more references in the manga not only from Star Wars, for example, in the manga the video game thing they use to explain the exam is done in Mario style

Alex Morelli

That scene with Bae showing up to give him her points <3 It is awesome to see that Izuku is finally getting recognized for his heroism and good deeds, instead of getting yelled at and talked down to all his life like before.

Something to note about Izuku tearing up all the time, though, and I hope you guys will discuss this: the superhuman/political society of MHA has some SERIOUS problems. In the first episode, Izuku prefaces this by stating that "All men are not created equal", and it's emphasized by the fact that throughout his entire life, he's had NO support from friends, teachers, or his own mother. Even the teacher didn't stop him getting bullied in the classroom - not because he's just a jerk, but because of the mindset that someone without powers is incapable of succeeding. Even better emphasized in Ep 2 where the pros (the people he looks up to and hugely admires) chew him to the GROUND for doing the right thing - but shower Bakugo with nothing but praise. Again, not because they're terrible people, but because realistically (in their minds at least), Bakugo is the only one of the two of them that will actually HAVE a career. That said, it only makes sense that Izuku would be an emotionally-weak person at this time of his life - suffering from anxiety, thoroughly cowed by his peers, little to no familial support, and no one around to help or confide in. I think anyone who's ever been a minority or has a disability of some kind could hugely relate to him and how he's treated by society. The unintentional oppression of the minority/quirkless/anyone with a useless power, and the way it affects those unfortunate people, is a fascinating thing to look at in this world that Horikoshi has created, and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. :)

13:33 Be careful what you wish for, Shane - this show is NOT what it seems. <3 Enjoy the feel-good moments while you can...no joke, MHA/BNH has been known to make grown men cry. Like, gross, snot-dripping, manly-sobbing. In public places. <3

Sky Sirak

I’m in the middle. While I believe the dub has better dialogue for the most part (the “Oh my goodness scene” excluding), I believe that the sub has better delivery overall.

Alex James

Calvin’s hair got long as hell

Alex James

Um, spoiler?

Ryan Hopkins

I prefer the dub so much more

Notice when All Might is explaining the rescue points Aaron is almost tearing up.

Ashgar77

And yes, the Star Wars references are 100% intentional. The creator has admitted that he loves to put references to Star Wars into his work

TheWerdna

well quirks do fuck up the usual appearance of people, making them look bigger or smaller than what we would assume of someone of a certain age

Burooj Ahanger

The anime does a really really really poor job of explaining it, but basically when All Might passes on One For All, he is left with remnants of the power he can still use. But this power is a finite resource for him now, so the more he uses it, the less he will have until its gone.

TheWerdna

I always watch in subs but I actually think the dub for this is perfectly fine!

Ninaly

Best Jeanist has control over Cloth Textiles, not just those he's wearing but also those on the clothes of other people. The type of Textile he has most control over is Denim

Fan Lok Tsang

I agree

TbcAlex

I love this dub, tired of seeing people trash it. Freaking weebs man.

Cameron Pimley

Yeah the dub isn't great but it's worth to go through just to see your reactions and hear your thoughts on each episode!

Trixie

I'm really not a fan of this dub, but I love the reactions! Thank you guys.
