we also see at multiple points that the water doesn't revert them to completely normal human either. In Arlong Park Luffy was completely submerged but the others could still stretch his head out. I remember in old translations the DF users would all say something along the lines of, "Falling into the sea would turn me into a hammer" basically saying they can't move and just sink to the bottom.

No spoiler clarification that in the live action, they show the sea water affects devil fruit users really extremely, like just splashing water on them makes them weak. In the anime, they can wade a little bit and be slightly weak but the real issue is that they will be weakened in water that is deep enough for them to just drown while they're in that state

Doping is actually a real thing. Athletes would increase their red blood cell count to carry more oxygen to their muscles during a long event like cycling. Also how nice would a 10 episode Christmas marathon be right now!?!? Guess I can only dream.

The "sea" here can refer to anything from rivers, pools and baths to any kind of standing water. On a worldwide level, they are all the "sea." When these people enter the water, not only can they not use their powers, they have trouble moving their bodies at all. They might be able to struggle a bit, but it wouldn't do much good. That's if their entire bodies are submerged in the "sea." With less than half the body or just the limbs, it gets easier. Also, rain and dripping water have no effect at all. -From sbs volume 41

Yeah, I too was wondering what second gear consisted of I had a hunch, but was confused by the concept. When I first watched this episode, like it made sense I thought he was doping. But like rubber looses some of it's properties when it get hot, and then I started getting super nerdy lol. Like he's human so the fibers are still muscles just the fibers now have an even more elastic properties, so to me that meant Lucci was wrong about him shorting his life. Because as we know with our muscles when we exercise the grow stronger, so in fact he's actually making his heart stronger by pushing himself to extremes humans couldn't normally bare. Also I like how Luffy learns from every battle and devlops tactics using what he learned from his enemies, i.e. Learning how to understand the Moon Walk ability, and implement it in hs own unique way (Jet style).

Telling Robin on the train to believe in Luffy, burning down the world government flag, sniping Spandam’s disgusting ass, delivering the keys, becoming Zoro’s strongest sword - what a run after the embarrassment of challenging Luffy and leaving the crew!
