May 2023 Patroncast Submissions - Now Closed

Hello!

May is only just barely over, so let's get working on the May Patroncast, and hopefully restore a semblance of order to the naming protocol...

Just in case you're new, this submission thread is where you get to ask questions, suggest topics, or point out your favourite XCOM 2 fact that I've completely missed thus far.

So ask away, and I'll update this post when the Patroncast is recorded, so as long as there isn't an edit below saying that, everything should be good :)

EDIT - The Patroncast has now been recorded, so further questions cannot be included.

All the best,

Jon

Comments

Completely agree - it 100% feels like that was the plan at some point as well...

Many A True Nerd

It will be showing up very soon :)

Many A True Nerd

... Do I have to? :(

Many A True Nerd

I'll answer this here, as it's probably a controversial take for somebody - in short, it's most definitely a high-risk strategy. Like, there are 100% instances where a piece of media gets unfairly treated due to sexism, racism, etc - we see incredibly dumb review-bombing occurring in gaming on occasion. It is possible there are scenarios that calling it out might represent a decent volume of good PR, but it's always going to be risky.

Many A True Nerd

I'm already always tired so marry too tired. Fuck too cold because it's easier to get warm by adding extra clothes and blankets then it is to cool off when too hot.

MrGhosta5

Jon why are you so lucky in Xcom? In your first mission if you hadn't finished the mission that turn the truck would have exploded next turn killing Jon, Ted, and failing the mission because the objective got destroyed. More serious question. Jon you used to work in marketing. What are your thoughts on the marketing teams of major corporations calling their customers racist for not enjoying their projects? To me it seams like an obviously bad idea to call your customers racist and then expect them to give you their money. I've never worked in marketing so maybe this is some sort of high level 10,000 IQ marketing move that's way above my head.

MrGhosta5

also patreon finally added collections, are you looking forward to a weekend of categorising all your posts?

Anna D

I'm watching another youtuber stream a game called ghost trick: phantom detective and it's really charming. looks like it's about a dead guy's ghost trying to find out who he was and who killed him (and also solving/stopping other crimes along the way) and it's an hd remaster of a DS game. it doesn't come out til the end of the month but it has a pretty lengthy demo right now.

Anna D

Hi Jon hope you're doing well. FMK: Being too hot, being too cold, being too tired?

Sam Layton

Hello from Canada. If/when you eventually get around to playing a full series of a new-to-you Paradox grand strategy, how much time do you plan to put into the game before you start recording - completely unaware, dip your toe, play a couple games or deeper research? Also, how are you feeling about Starfield after their Direct? (Literally watching it as I write this.) Pretty sure they brought back Adoring Fan (voice actor and all) just for you.

Nick

Hey Jon, Claire, and Ted hope the annual British heatwave hasn't started yet... Jon I recently moved to Pittsburgh and the experience of walking over the yellow bridges from North Shore to Downtown fills me with a feeling of nostalgia/ Deja Vu for Fallout 3. I was wondering if you have ever experienced something like this with a video game location that also exists in the real world.

Ian Albreski

Hi Jon, My favourite recent XCOM 2 fact that I've learned, is that a significant number of actors from Star Trek TNG did voice work on War of the Chosen. Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, John de Lancie to name a few. And of course the Advent speaker is voiced by Brandon Keener, the VA for Garrus in Mass Effect. Speaking of VA's who is one of your favourite VA's in gaming? and who surprised you the most to learn that they did voice work for a game?

Zai Seadrake

Hi Jon, I got several years behind on the Patroncast, and decided to take up jogging while listening, and just finished catching up. Thanks for helping me get into better shape. In honor of that, here's a fuck/marry/kill for things you've said on the Patroncast: -The time you said you were looking forward to Redfall -The time you expressed optimism that they were remaking XIII -The time you said, in February 2020, that you thought COVID was contained and wouldn't be a big deal

W

Hello Jon, Claire and Ted! Hope by the time this is on Ted is doing better in the heat. Are you looking at the 2024 schedule with a sense of dread? An Obsidian game, possibly an InXile game and a host of stuff that seems right up your street all announced for that year!

Leftback

Hi everyone! My birthday was on June 9th, could I have a happy birthday from the worst possible iteration of American Jon? Also, what non-starfield game looked most interesting to you from the Xbox showcase? Also, have you seen any of Tim Cain's recent YouTube videos? He has some really neat ones pertaining to Fallout, like the one where he goes over how the series was names

missingno

Hello! It don’t have any questions this month, but it’s my 26th birthday the 16th of June. Can I get a happy birthday in your favorite impression to give a happy birthday wish to?

KayofAllTrades

Hi Jon, what are your thoughts on the star field direct.

Harry Gilson

Hi Jon, Claire & Ted ! Jon, are you happy that your best friend, the adoring fan, is returning in Starfield ? And Claire, do you lock the kitchen after every channel anniversary to prevent Jon from cooking? Have a nice month (whatever month the video gets out).

Ricco

Hey Jon, I was just watching the tale of two wastelands video on Raven Rock and I wish to share in your disappointment of the lack of discussion of the civil war between Autumn and Eden. To me there are some many really interesting opportunities there missing out. Hell I could of seen a potential story path of convincing Autumn to take him and his followers, and actually full separate themselves from Eden and the rest of the Enclave, mirroring what Lyons did, maybe even becoming allies! Wouldn't that be more interesting then what we got?

Ryan Towers

Hey Jon! Ever been on a scooter or motorbike?

Thomas Clark

Been paying any attention to fake E3? Any highlights you’d like to share, if yes?

Reformed Nerd

Jon, you’ve inspired me to play Xcom 2 but… I suck. Even on the easiest setting. So, compared to me you are a Pro Player. What top 3 tips can you give me to suck less?

Sprout Winkler

Hey Jon, as has being bought up in the past, for some reason gaming has not yet explored the Greco-persian, this has got me thinking about other era's of history that have being underexplored. With this in mind, here is a new fuck, marry, kill. Fuck being a new game that is a cult classic and may get a sequel but never really going too far, marry being excellent and popular enough to spawn a long running franchise and kill being never released Big open world Bethesda style game set during the South American war of independence A total war style game set during the Chinese warlord period, with the end game threat of Japan invading A bioware (In their prime) style game set in Eastern Roman empire/Byzentine. When is up to you I will allow you to go with some alternate history varient of the above, as most history games tend to include some secret history or change

Ryan Towers

Hi Jon, Claire and Ted. You have spoken in the past about getting frustrated with people at self checkouts not packing while scanning. I offer a counter point, that joint bagging and scanning is more likely to cause an unrecognised item error, causing a major loss of time waiting for the checkout assistent. In this important debate, would you consider it acceptable that if there's a pair of people shopping for them to scan, and then one pay while the others bags? (As long as the bagger is done before the payment is completed) Or would you still tut? Second Q: Which UK supermarket do you think has the best instore bakery? Personally I think white chocolate Lidl cookies are peerless.

Tom Armitage

Very strong recommendation for Zelda Tears of a Kingdom. I know you haven't played Breath of the Wild yet, but you'll be missing out on one of the best games of the year if you use that as a reason not to play Tears of a Kingdom. I remember in last month's patroncast you mentioned you didn't know how they related to each other, so here is a spoiler free breakdown. They are based on many of the same core mechanics (stamina management for climbing, weapon degragation, and cooking just to name a few), but Tears of a Kingdom massively expands these mechanics. Tears of a Kingdom takes place sometime after Breath of the Wild (same Zelda and same Link). The map is both games have similar general layouts, but the specific details how individual areas are composed are very different. They also both have an isolated tutorial island/plateau for you to learn the mechanics before the game proper begins. I know the schedule's packed right now, but maybe you could do a mid week miniseries where you look at one or both games. Then if you enjoy them, you could do a live stream series for one of them like you did for Elden Ring last year. Tbh the exploration of Tears of a Kingdom feels similar to me to the exploration in Elden Ring despite both games being so different.

Shawn Rosofsky

Jon and Claire, with summer only a few weeks away, Do you guys have any fun trips planned? And what movies and tv shows are you excited for this year? Update post Starfield Direct. What do you take away from the Direct? What are you most excited about?

Bryan P

Will Tale of Two Wastelands cover any of the Fallout 3 DLC?

Canadas Bacon

Hello MATN crew! Long time viewer, started watching during the New Vegas kill everything run, nearly 10 years ago! Jon, I've often wondered about how your channel affects what games you are able to play and how much you can play them. Do you sometimes miss out on playing a game that appeals to you because it wouldn't fit well on the channel, into the schedule, or work well with commentary? What is it like trying to weigh when you might want to play a game for your own pleasure at your own pace Vs playing it on camera with commentary? Do you even get the time to play games much without having to feel like it's "for work"? In particular, I think about how you played a few hours of "Disco Elysium" and then put it as your 10th ranked game of 2019, but understandably for scheduling reasons we never saw more of it on the channel than the one off episode. Do games like that sometimes have to go unfinished for channel management reasons, or do you ever get to finish them "off-screen"?

Felix

After videos get a mention in the Patroncast do you ever notice a bump in viewership ? I admit to watching Star Wars Pinball DIRECTLY after the April Patroncast.

A.J. Sperle

So are you enjoying Xcom 2?

Copper Hamster

Hello Jon, Claire and Ted I do hope you are all well :) Jon, Since I see you are dipping your toes in horror games from time to time may I recommend "Faith". A horror game (that is obvious) that is heavily inspired by the graphics of the mighty Commodare 64. The game focuses more on atmosphere then on the BOO scares and it is creepy!

Eyal Arditi

Jon, do you think you'll ever come up with a consistent naming convention for the patreon cast?

Daffy

Jon, with the suggestion Microsoft might block Activison/Blizz games in the UK. Do you think that might extend to other studios? No Starfield/Fallout for you! (Flip Microsoft btw.)

David

Jon, how is UK politics doing these days? Is the lettuce still running things efficiently? :)

Canadas Bacon

Hey Jon, it was my birthday on the 23rd of May - could I (Charlie) have a "happy birthday" in a voice of your choosing?

octarinecharlie

Have you played Mali in CK3?

Drogo Danderfluff

Hi, Jon, Claire, &Ted... i really loved the RE4 remake videos, will you talk a little bit about why you don't think certain games don't get the views on the channel? me and my (now 8 yr old) son loved the pokemon series'es and the mario sunshine videos and i wonder if wind waker or any zelda will have a day, or if its just not going to be really supported by the community. thanks for yr time!

Skipp

Got a two parter for you: Do you think Bethesda will ever do a remake/remaster of any fallout games? With the modding community remaking all major fallout games, which are you most excited for and why?

Jon Campos

Hello MATN crew! Question for Ted, where is your favourite place to sleep and where is you favourite place to be scratched?

Terro1888

Jon, factcheck this tweet if you would ( https://twitter.com/qikipedia/status/1661764067705626629 ), it sounds to me like the kind of thing people pass around about Rome because it sounds like it could be true, when it isnt actully.

Canadas Bacon

Happy May (June, oh dear), MATN Crew! Jon, are you worried about the current state of the gaming industry, or more specifically the state of the AAA industry, with games releasing in shocking states and workers being generally treated horribly. As someone going into it right now, it's a really daunting task, and I am seriously considering taking more time out to develop my own projects. Speaking of my own projects, Fallout of Love now has a whole lot of assets, and the character sheets are coming along nicely, it will be done... some day. Clarie, I’m just starting to get into reading again but unfortunately I do not think our genres clash. My girlfriend however is looking to get into more fantasy type books, do you have any recommendations? Ted? Ted :)

Zac Thompson

Hi Jon, Claire and Ted! As this will probably come out after the xbox showcase and the Starfield showcase. What things did excite you the most? I'm hoping for maybe some information for the next Slimerancher 2 update, some 76 news, all there is an update the 13th so maybe we will only get a trailer for that.. Avowed would be nice I think? For Starfield I hope to see some good pistol content? Those classes seem always to be the most forgotten. (not a Starwars fan but that was a nice looking blaster in the live stream!) The thing I’m not really excited about is how planets will probably feel small? There are maybe four POI on it and done? I’d then rather had them go the Outer Worlds route and give us multiple zones on a planet but well sized. So there could’ve also been different biomes. So you might have had ten systems with 100 planets but a lot more to do on each planet? Like have far harbour or even Skyrim sized zones. With also underground caverns and such. With dlc they could add just a new zone or modders could. I fear the game will feel very empty. And planets will feel monotone. Is Ted doing well with the increasing heat? Did you ever get around installing AC?

Smitje

Hey Jon and Claire! Hope you guys are doing great. Jon, last month you mentioned not having a PS5 — any plans on getting one, what with the new Spider-Man game coming up (hint hint). Also, can we expect a similar attitude towards Blizzard like with Ubisoft? I’m avoiding Diablo 4 until MSFT acquires them and fixes the workplace issues (I have no hope of them getting better otherwise) Also, please check out Furnish Master, I think you’ll love it.

sublime

Jon I'm actually interested in picking up total war pharaoh but I've not played a total war game since the hach'n slasher spartan total warrior on the ps2/xbox what game would you suggest playing in order to figure out how everything works? Also have you ever seen stargate sg1 in which linear-A is an obscure dialect of an alien language, and what which resident evil movie would you say is the best?

SamTheSensualSapphist

Jon, today I am finally beginning my voyage into discworld. By listening to every discworld audiobook in release order. I don't know how long i will be in here

Anna D

If you were on death row in the fallout universe, what would be your final meal (3 courses) using only the cooked meals in fallout (no pre war packaged foods)?

GeekMeetsWorld

Favourite pizza toppings for everyone at MATN, or your best estimate for Ted (if he's not allowed people food)?

Salem Wildfire

Hey Claire, Jon and Ted, i was wondering whether Zelda: Tears of the kingdom was on your list of reviewable games?

Andy Köhnle

Hey John, hope your doing well, I know you have spent time around Leicester and Loughborough, have you ever visited the Great Central Railway there? It's a great day out and can fully recommend it

Dip Cheesus

Jon, I discovered your channel when Kotaku published the article: guy beats fallout new Vegas without ever healing. It was PublishedFebruary 25, 2015 . How many subscribers did you have at that time and did you see a large jump when the article was released or around that time?

Tom Boldero

FMK: FMK questions, birthday song requests, questions about your favourite biscuits

Steve Alberts

Hi Jon, game suggestion that appears to be up your alley, NIMBY Rails. Basically, design your own train system on a real map of the world, or re-design an existing system, it’s also basically running a spreadsheet underneath for timetabling, demography, demand etc….

James Katarzynski

Hello all! Given the recent Resident Evil remakes, which one would you like to see them remake next? Or would you prefer to see them move on to RE9? Personally, I’d love to see the original game and Zero remade in the style of RE2/3/4 that have come out recently! Also, our little doggo Wilson isn’t doing so great at the moment and needs some encouragement from Ted, can he get a supporting ‘woof’ to cheer him up?

John Howard

I've recently gotten my boyfriend into your channel and it's his birthday on the 17th June (perfectly in time for the May patroncast of course) so would you be able to sing happy birthday in Portuguese for him please? His name is Sivan My question for this week is have you ever played the Fable games? If so what dod you think, and do you think you'd ever do a series of it on the channel? Hope you're all doing well this month

Alice Roberts

Hi Jon, Claire, and Ted. I hope you've all had a good start to the month. Jon: Since you were successful in recording Fallout Brotherhood of Steel. Have you considered doing other older console games like Pokémon Colosseum?. Claire: Who do you prefer H G Wells or Jules Verne?. Ted: My shih tzu Molly would like to know what are you favorite treats? Her's are Pedigree Rodeo's.

Yorkshire Bhoy

Hi Jon! I'm currently doing a full playthrough of FNV where I can't kill anything that could reasonably be considered a person (i.e. humans, ghouls and super-mutants). Killing animals and robots is permitted but still generally avoided when possible. Would you say that feral ghouls should be on the no-kill list or not, and do you have any fun suggestions for extra rules/challenges/cool ideas for this playthrough? Also it was my birthday on May 18th. Could I get a happy birthday in the style of Hello Headquarters Jon making an announcement on a Fallout radio station of your choosing?

Christina (shrugs)

JON! Just wanted to say I’d have eaten the Darth Vader/Teddy hybrid cake that you made for the anniversary

George “Good Luck Mattophobia” Spence

Hello Jon, Ted, and I suppose Claire! I have my birthday coming up the second of July so if this Patreoncast is... delayed I would appreciate a happy birthday duet like in the streams. If this comes out earlier than that then feel free to ignore this part. Also, I recently realised that I am in fact trans which has proved to be an... interesting experience. This is mainly for Claire but do either of you have any book recommendations with a trans character? Either way, trans rights!!

Eliza Kontiokari

Hello Jon Claire and Ted, my submission this month for the patreon cast is two fold. One) Jon, Has there ever been a game you’ve played that you were like “THIS IS AN AMAZING GAME” but once you finished it you never touched it again? Two) Claire, I would like to know the same from you, but with a book instead Please, thank you, and I love all the amazing content you both put out.

Daniel Friel

Hope you, Claire and Ted are doing well. Have you heard the theory that the Hanging Gardens of Babylon might be a misidentification of the Gardens at Nineveh which did exist and actually have some archaeological evidence?

Info_Overload

My birthday is mid June ( a month prior to release of this patroncast) can I get a fast talking auctioneer Jon happy birthday?

kevlarmenace

Jon... Now that you've worked your way through a healthy chunk of Democracy Week, are there any plans to visit HOI4 this year?

Chip Hayes

Jon! If you could go back to the golden age of Bioware and have them make a game about ancient Greece, what would you want the time frame of the story and the major set pieces to be? What would the classic Bioware twist be? And how would your favorite classical Greek insult get worked into the dialogue?

John Rothe

While I love your positivity, and enthusiastic enjoyment of games, I find the rare angry tirade to be my favorite videos (e.g. Redfall, XIII, etc.). How bad must a game be for you to feel it deserves the anti-MATN treatment?

Reformed Nerd

Jon, I hope you, Claire, and Ted are doing fantastic. My birthday is on June 9th, and this is this first time I've remembered to ask, so can I get a happy birthday in a voice of who you've always wanted to wish a happy birthday in, but no one has asked before?

Alex

Hope you all are well! Recommendation for A Building Full of Cats/A Castle Full of Cats. Like a hidden picture puzzle, but with cats! Not sure how it would work as a video but the game itself is about $2 and an hour or two of pure puzzly joy and relaxation, if you're ever in need of that. Also any plans to stream the Vampire Survivors DLC?

Simone S

how do you assuage existential self-doubt (i am teasing you but we all go through that right)

aconcretemoth

Hi Jon! How are you enjoying XCOM 2 so far?

Spooky_Basil

Question for both: Do you like corgis and/or pomeranians?

DuckHunter

It will be interesting to see if it all goes completely tits up, will Jon just end the series there or will he load a previous save and try to salvage it

Spooky_Basil

Jon! You mentioned in the last Patroncast that you were eyeing up the Elden Ring randomiser mod... Any plans for a video in the near future? Also my first question for Claire! A pretty generic one but, are there any games that Jon has played on stream that you really enjoyed and decided to play yourself after?

Keevo

Jon, you often talked about the other Total War games. What were your thoughts on Shogun II, and which campaign mode (Base game, Fall of the Samurai, etc) did you enjoy?

ZVL

One thing that surprised me last month is how old the Nintendo switch is. It’s seven years old. Do you think it’s getting a little long in the tooth?

Miyaa

Hey Jon, do you think you could get your head around the game, "5D Chess With Multiverse Time Travel"? I can't explain it, you might need to read some Steam reviews. You were talking about Milf Manor quite a bit last year, did you watch it? Also, I remember years ago that you intended to watch Chuggaaconroy's extremely long Xenoblade Chronicles 2 video series. Did you watch it? If you did, did you find some new appreciation for that game?

Dragmire

Hey Jon. I know you’ve heard it many times, but since you like XCOM and Skies of Arcadia, I do recommend Valkyria Chronicles (1 and/or 4 – I think 2 and 3 only came out on the PSP, and I believe there’s a spin off which is probably not so good). Also just want to say how much I appreciate your Fallout 3 videos. Fallout 1+2 were among the first games I really got into. When seeing the text leaving Vault 13 that your character is seeing the sun for the first time, I remember thinking that one day it’s going to be great when games have advanced to the point they can actually show you that and you’ll be able to stop any time and just look out at the post-apocalyptic landscape. Fallout 3 realised that for me. Why is it that for many on youtube though it seems like everything is either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever and no state exists inbetween?

John Coutelier

Hi John, hope you and the fam are well! I would like to know if you or Claire have read any of Jennifer Saints books? If not, I couldn't recommend them enough as they do a beautiful retelling of classic myths and from a nice but tame feminist view.

Callum Merry-Taylor

Jon! Having now played the new Total War game, why do you think Creative Assembly are so wedded to their current 20 unit, ~2000 man army formula? I know I'd love to see some bigger, more diverse battles, but they haven't really updated the formula since they released Rome 2. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Michael

Happy (sort of) May, Jon, Claire and Ted! If you could only save 1 game from each decade (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and 20s) what would you save? For clarity, the games you pick would be the only games you can play for the rest of your life.

Liam

Hey Jon, hope all is well. Do you have any favourite stellaris origins/ethics/roleplays that you like to play with?

Helixspace

Question for Jon: Aside from the XIII recent 'remaster', which game has been the most disappointing to play? Question for Claire: Have you read the Wayfarer series by Becky Chambers? I heartily recommend them if you haven't. Question for Ted: Woof?

Paul Hawkins

Hello Jon, Claire, and Ted!!! I hope all is well with you guys. I don’t have a question this month, but you can use this time if you need to vent about anything.

Kaleigh Alexander

Jon, if you got to pick any one historical/fictional setting for a total war game, what would it be?

John Bats

I lived on the remote arctic island of Svalbard for about a year. I usually watched your videos every day - how cool does it feel to know that on several occasions, you therefore have been the most northernmost streamed YouTuber on the planet? It really makes you realize how small the world actually is.

Stian Øverbye

Good day, Jon! In light of your exposure to Warhammer Fantasy through Total War: Warhammer, do you think you'll ever look more into the 40K side of things and some of the games that have been released in that setting?

Carabas

Jon, if you were afflicted with some dramatic contrivance that meant you had to end your channel forever, what would you do for your final video? (edit: besides obra dinn)

Anna D

Jon, who would you pick to have as a robot servant? and what would be the command you'd give them that would break them and have them declare war on all humanity and kill us?

Travis Reis

I love that your rationalisation for XCOM 2's setting is that Enemy Unknown just didn't happen, though it's a bit of a sad reminder for me that you never played Enemy Within outside of a livestream. Speaking of XCOM 2, what's your policy on using saves? Will you savescum to save the main cast if it comes down to it, or will you avoid it at all costs?

CassidyCope

Hello Jon. We're aware of your kitchen competency when it comes to making anything from scratch; I'm wondering how well you do with boxed meals. Things such as "Boil water, pour these noodles in, boil them this long while mixing this sauce in a separate bowl, cool and mix." Also what is your favorite supporting vegetable? Such as green beans, corn, peas, etc.

Anthony Phillips

Hey Jon, Claire and Ted! Jon! Now that XCOM 2 has finally begun what are your early impressions of the way the series is performing viewership-wise and how do you think it will carry on as the series progresses?

Julian Hutchings

Hi Jon claire and Ted I hope you're all well John what has been your favourite video that you have done so far in 2023 ?

GamerGeorgeXl

How’s you? How’s Claire? How’s Ted? Fuck marry Kill - drink addition where fuck is you drink it occasionally, marry you drink it every day and kill you never drink. Sunset sarsaparilla, Nuka cola original and Nuka cola quantum And one for you and Claire Tea coffee and hot chocolate
