What a horrific & cowardly act, to unleash his frustration on her in such a way. And he STILL wouldn’t let her go. (😡Deep… breaths…😤) And then the escape on the wagon, Arnheid seeing herself riding with Gardar & her children on his wagon! My heart!😭 This poor woman needs peace. She has experienced enough suffering. As for Ketil, his mental state is crumbling, fueling his fear with irrationality & arrogance. His impaired judgment is severely affecting his role as “master” over the farm; thus, his rash decision to fight Canute with his sons. The chaos is snowballing! What hits harder is Snake following Ketil to battle, knowing Ketil was a fraud from the beginning, knowing there is a price to pay for protecting & appeasing a fraud like him. They lived well for many years, with a foundation established in Ketil’s falsehoods. Ketil, mounted on his horse beside his soldiers, is so lost in a delusion, it makes you wonder if he truly believes he’s the real Ketil—& Snake is aware he’s in for a rude awakening. He knows it’s time for them to pay their dues. And as the audience, we know that it’s gonna be even worse once Thorgil finally emerges from the water.

Ketil is trying to control everything around him and that turned him into a violent man, because even if a slave owner is "nice" he will continue to see his slaves as his possessions, not as humans. On the other hand we have Thorfinn who is trying to have control over his own actions and how they impact others and that is turning him into a kind man, and that is having an influence on the people around him.
