Applejack, The Helicopter Parent | My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 4 Episode 17 REACTION + Discussion

Yes seems the past eps have been extremely controversial with its mixed meanings. And I like how you said this episode did show a big issue with character consistency since it does seem that applejack is the most understanding and nurturing out of the mane 6. So to suddenly be extremely over the top was interesting to say the least. By conclusion I meant that it seems like it took soooo much for her to realize what she did was wrong. And by the end of it it’s as if she didn’t really learn or had to be convinced in dangerous ways. Yes the message to kids here was very concerning with both not trusting parents and over protective ones. I get the situation as everyone goes through it but this was excessive. Glad you enjoyed the rambles! 😂

yeah about the landing, i think it was a writing error that shouldn't have happened, because it provokes kids to do exactly this... if they encounter a similar situation. And that is dangerous...

"Somepony to Watch Over Me" had it's humor and adventure while teaching an important lessons about independence, trust, and the balance between protection and freedom. Sadly it got a little bit muddled in the end and that's where it got difficult for me. - Some notes/thoughts/facts: - As a matter of fact i didn't compare anyone with any pony... but now that you mentioned it...i inadvertently will be doing that 😅 - But it's sweet that you have done that 😄 And no problem if you have a lot to say, thats a good thing in my account. Helicoptermom...er...sister yeah... i also love how BicMac's reaction to her pointless worrying here... AJ is really going overboard here... and was completely annoying. But that double helmet joke was funny. 🤣 That plan of Apple Bloom to deliver these pies to show AJ how responsible she is would have been a good albeit a dangerous one, even without the route through that fire-swamp and the encounter with that Chimera... But desperate people do desperate things... It was quite a good action-loaded confrontation with AB, AJ and the Chimera. 21:00 No, i think it wasn't just that, to AJ defense, she had this thought shortly before she found out that Sweetie Belle impersonated Apple Bloom: Applejack: "Just... checking in on you again. Look at you, dozing so peaceful-like. Here I am, checking up on you every five seconds, and you're totally fine. Maybe you don't need me fretting over you all the time." And i think that insight after the chimera-incident in said fire-swamp just affirmed this thought. But the only thing that i found problematic here was AJ saying it like this: Applejack: "...and if you hadn't snuck out like you did, maybe I wouldn't have figured that out." This just spells trouble for kids who are watching it, provoking them to do exactly that... that's absolutely dangerous... --- This episode has sparked varied opinions among fans, with a significant portion criticizing Applejack's overly protective behavior as uncharacteristic and grating. Many viewers found her actions excessive, leading to an episode that felt embarrassing and hard to watch. On the other hand, some fans appreciated the underlying intentions of showing Applejack's love and concern for her sister, although they acknowledged that this portrayal could have been handled better. The chimera scene and certain humorous lines were well-received, indicating that the episode had its moments despite the overall mixed reception. Ultimately, while the episode aimed to teach valuable lessons about independence and protection, it struggled with maintaining character consistency and balancing its narrative, resulting in a polarized response from the audience. Overall, it was by far not the best episode, but it had its jokes and a nice unexpected little adventure with an mythological foe. I just don't get one point in your conclusion... you said they still didn't learn the lesson... but AJ did learn it (she said that at the end) or am i wrong? Or did you (or me) just misunderstand something here? - could you enlighten me? - oh dang you read my mind again... but thats what i meant before, i think it was a writing error that shouldn't have happened like this, because it was giving dangerous ideas towards kids. 😅 Still i absolutely understand that these three episodes killed the good mood after the better episodes before, but i promise that the following episodes after that are much better than the last three ones.... which you know... because u allready are ahead of me 😅 Anyway - thank you for reacting to this, it was enjoyable to see you rambling about it. 💙

Earlier this week I just said I was excited to tune in and now after these 3, I might need a break 😂😅. Even previous seasons haven’t had 3 consecutive underwhelming episodes Yes it’s a solid one but still misses the landing. Frustrating but in a realistic way for sure.

Lol I know these 3 episodes have been weak unfortunately but I promise this season gets better, this epsiode is okay, not my favorite cmc episode or my favorite in the season, but it’s better then the last two at least, I’m glad at least apple jack will trust apple bloom too stay home, I agree I just can’t believe it took an emergency situation for apple jack to learn that lesson and they kept that lesson.
