Oh man what a opener!! How dark and serious this became. Also tackled more cutie mark purpose and commentary! I did not notice it so good eye! Fluttershy’s niceness will of course come in clutch! Awesome how annoyingly acceptive she was 😂 Okay my connections are correct. I’m always paranoid about getting the messages being incorrect. Pinkie was AMAZING this episode. Have never seen her this suspicious. Always trust her senses. Starlight was such an amazing inclusion! How she views friendship and community goes against everything that not only twilight believes in but what the show represents. What a wonderful villain that we know has more to her story 🤔. That song was uncomfortable. Even reading these lyrics is so anti-MLP Twilight comes in clutch with her knowledge! Great detail and role for her. I lost it when starlight’s true identity got revealed. SHOOK Sorry for language but this message was so god damn good and perfectly tied everything together. Your right with the blend of the communist and friendship layers makes this such a compelling story. WORLD BUILDING. Literally 😂😭 Ooo that’s awesome. 4 year time difference. Love those details. If the season starts out like this, I’m sooooooo excited to see what they have in store. This was risky and dark and it was incredible!!

Yes I wish they went deeper into it but I still think they captured the situation well. Seems more of a brainwash cult writing than the angry and darker hatred but we also seem to get that at the reveal and end of the episode. The cutie map! They said “you’ll have world building and you’ll like it!” And pinkie was too much but I loved it. Very excited for another season!

With thrilling twists, the Mane 6 demonstrate the power of friendship and inspire the villagers to reclaim their unique identities, making this an unforgettable start to Season 5. - Some notes/thoughts/facts: - I dunno why, but the first time i watched this Premiere, the way the Cutie Marks on the chairs lightened up one by one at the beginning after each one sat down was an obvious indicator for me that something will happen if they all sit down... but i wonder if that was obvious for everyone or just me? Because, no one ever mentioned that... how was it on your end? Worldbuilding indeed, the cutie-map which is showing them were they have to go, it kinda looks neat: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/my-little-universe/images/1/1c/Cutie_Map.png Imagine Fluttershy wouldn't have gone with them... this would have ended in a disaster, Spike would talk her to death about Hoof-Ball 😅 - Nah im just saying: She played a pivotal role here 😁 "Is there some communism here?" - You are goddamn right on the spot here, Ed :D These Smiles are fake, and Pinkie knows smiles... and these smiles are eerie and creepy... Pinkie: "Something's rotten in... whatever the name of this village is that we're in right now!" 🤣 - this is a play on the line "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark" from Hamlet btw. And the town is called "Our Town"... - fitting don't you think? I think it's the first time Twilight gets recognized as an Alicorn by someone else and gets called out for that! The leader "Starlight Glimmer" brings a fresh wind as the new villain here - she is "just" another Pony with a kind of unexpected ambition... Her name is similar to "Sunset Shimmer" in EQG, most mix them both up and that will always be a problem 😆 The parade song "In Our Town" bears quite propagandistic/nationalistic/marxistic traits and is highly creepy and uncomfortable... the lyrics alone are creepy all around: "You can't have a nightmare if you never dream!" is one of the scariest thing I've ever heard... - I wonder how it managed to get approved by Hasbro. Even more strange is the fact that it was published on an Album called "Pinkie Pie's Party Playlist"... I dunno why but this is by far not even close to any kind of party music 😅 - Pinkie even dislikes the song in this episode here... ...But Fluttershy likes it very much... - whyyyyy? 😭 Everything Starlight is talking about here has cult-like vibes: Starlight Glimmer: "We have no judgments here in our village. Each of us was confused once as well, blinded by the false promise of our cutie marks." Starlight Glimmer: "Have you considered perhaps that you might have been sent here so we could help you? After all, nopony has ever come to our village and wanted to leave. Why should you be any different? But that is entirely your choice." Entirely your choice my ass! 🤬 - All is fine and dandy... until you stole their cutie marks and locked them up in a cell to get them indoctrinated for your cause..! 😡 You know: "A kids show!" 👀🤣 And here we have "Sugar Belle", "Night Glider" and "Party Favor" - These seem to be not all that stoked about being cutie markless. Poor Pinkie had to eat all those tasteless muffins - even Derpy wouldn't approve of that. Sugar Belle: "So nopony could see what's about to happen." - This moment was gas-lighting us so hard... it also got me goosebumps. The "cutie mark vault" is a memento about how equality kills individualism - don't get me wrong here: to be equal doesn't mean to be the same as everyone else, but to have the same chances and treatment as everyone else. The way Twilights facial expression changes while the "Staff of Sameness" is being mentioned as one of the great "Mage Meadowbrook's" nine enchanted items... is such a neat detail, because she knew that there were only eight of them. Oh Pinkie, you had to spill the beans... she is more honest that AJ in this regard sometimes... 😅 Typical "It's a trap!" by General Akbar - moment here and everything goes downhill. Starlight must be pretty knowledgeable to create a spell that can swap someones cutie mark... but *shhh* - don't let the CMC's in on it 😅 And here they are in an indoctrination-cell, even worse, this spell seems to alter their identity and brainwash them... - you know... also "for kids" 😅 And here we go with the heroine of this premiere: Fluttershy, who was liking everything of this town until they got captured, pretends to be on their side and got proof of the inequality between the equality (I mean this literally, Starlights House is in between the equal rows: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mlp/images/4/44/The_village_S5E1.png ) - now imagine Fluttershy would have stood back with Spike and BigMac talking about Hoofball? 🤣 Sooo... everyone has to be equal, alright... but she (Starlight) is much more equal than others... she even still has her cutie mark and is calling the shots... because she is the most equal of all of them... you know..? I love how Twilight was questioning Starlight about the rules and philosophy in this town with everyone there to see - this made the revelation that she still has her cutie mark so much better. Starlight Glimmer: "The staff is a piece of wood I found in the desert! It's my magic that makes all this possible! You'd all still be living your miserable lives thinking you're better than everypony else if it weren't for my magical abilities! I brought you friendship! I brought you equality! I created harmony!" What was that about: "We don't flaunt about our ego" before? - Now, this didn't aged well... The face of Twilight the moment after Starlight shouted "QUIET!" was absolutely hilarious! Cutie marks with stars and swirls (is that why "Star...swirl the Bearded" is called that way? 🤔🤣) often represents affinity for magic'n'stuff - this means, Starlight must be pretty good in magic. The way the vault got destroyed is a reference to the famous "1984" advertisement for Apple's Macintosh home computer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtvjbmoDx-I And now they need help from the other ponies that were freed from this ridiculous markless life. Party Favors ballon-skills are on another level... (where did he even get these balloons?) And here we goooo a lesson by Twilight for Starlight as the princess of friendship: "I studied magic for years too! But what I didn't know then was that studying could only take me so far. Each of my friends has taught me something different about myself! It was their unique gifts and passions and personalities that helped bring out the magic inside of me! I never would have learned that I represent the element of magic without these five! And I certainly wouldn't be here to stop you now!" - You should definitely remember this Ed ;) A new era arrives for "Our Town" were real friendships now meet. --- This concludes this strong entry premiere to Season 5, which had surprisingly dark undertones. It elicited a wide range of responses from its fanbase, highlighting its complex reception. The episode's atmospheric and psychologically intense setting, crafted through Starlight Glimmers utopian society, was a notable departure from previous premieres. This shift was appreciated as a near-perfect deconstruction of the shows core themes. 👍 The introduction of Starlight Glimmer as a new type of non-millennial but dictatoresque villain and her abilities sparked various theories about this seasons direction, which sparked much speculation about how this season might delve into cutie mark magic and as you said a potentially return of Starlight Glimmer with a grander scheme at some point. 👀 The mature themes explored in the premiere were recognized for adding depth. - Moreover, the premiere explored the concept of friendship from contrasting perspectives between Twilight and Starlight, which added a layer of complexity to the narrative, which was particularly intriguing as it followed the establishment of Twilight as the Princess of Friendship. The serious tone of the episode allowed for a mature exploration of these themes in a child-friendly manner. 🤔 Also theres the new key element, the "cutie-map" which was a significant addition, symbolizing the Mane 6 expanded mission to spread genuine friendship beyond their personal circles. It even guided them to this town, which was in dire need of their help to restore true friendship. This whole thing just screams "HERE! Worldbuilding!" - That is a feat in itself. 🤩 And now if you think about it: The younger audience that began to watch MLP as kids grew alongside it - they are now 4 years older since season 1 and able to handle even more and deeper topics. 2024-07-04 21:49:46 +0000 UTCThis one is is very interesting never thought my little pony would tackle this subject, a communist cult town, starlight glimmer is an amazing villain, she’s like the exact opposite of twilight and her views, her personality is perfect for to be like a dictator/ cult leader although I do kinda wish for more of a divide between the ponies like even after they get their cutie marks back some may have missed not having it or liked it starlight’s way instead of being on board 100 percent automatically because they have lived who knows how long without cutie marks it would show that some are happy with the philosophy and some are not but maybe that would be too realistic for them to do, either way great season start lots of funny jokes from pinkie and just loved the chemistry between them in this, also we get the cutie map which is very interesting in itself! glad you’re excited for this season I can’t tell you much about it cause spoilers like every season so hope you enjoy it! great reaction as always! :)
