2024-01-06 18:36:44 +0000 UTCI really like the theory that Pearl couldn't finish her regeneration until the hologram she summoned was shut off- like it was leeching energy from her Gem all the while, energy she needed to actually heal up. A fun and also kinda tragic episode- it hurts to see just how vast a void Pearl's absence leaves for everyone. She can be uptight at times, but it's clear that the Crystal Gems really wouldn't be the same without her energy. Also oof- I feel so bad for poor Steven, genuinely having flashbacks to the scary moment of when he had to see one of his guardians stabbed by a sword.

2023-12-14 01:23:00 +0000 UTCI've always been fond of the bait-and-switch this episode pulls -- it's called "Steven the Sword Fighter" and it sets you up for a fun little episode about Steven learning to swordfight...and then Pearl gets run through with a sword and the rest of the episode is Steven trying to replace her with a copy that wants to kill him. It's oddly brilliant.
