STEVEN UNIVERSE 3X11 "Beach City Drift" Full Length Reaction

Here is my full length unedited reaction for Steven Universe! This only includes my reaction and thoughts. The video for the show is blurred and muted because of copyright, and I’m not trying to get in trouble. There is no intro. I always start my recordings at 00:00:00 of the show to make timecode syncing much easier and the timecode is included. I watch through any recaps (if any) and intros. But it always starts at 00:00:00. Must have your own copy to watch along with, since I can't offer that due to copyright laws. Streamer: Max

The moment at 7:56 is always interesting to me. You can tell the difference in consciousness within Stevonnie when they go into that dream state while driving. To me, it sounds more like Connie saying "what's happening" before snapping back to Steven who's just locked in on getting revenge on Kevin. I always find it a bit scary when they show Steven's angry side.

No, please be aggressive about Kevin, he sucks, I agree XD The music in this one slaps so hard, the race music is one of my favorite tracks of the whole show. It sounds amazing through headphones. (FYI, Cartoon Network did thankfully release a very exhaustive- though not entirely complete- OST for this show. Of course, I would probably recommend avoiding it until you finish everything, as many song titles do contain spoilers. It's such a wonderful listen in isolation though- the composers are geniuses with character motifs. Very thankful there was an official release of it.) I also heartily agree with what you said about Greg- about liking that coming into a lot of money hasn't changed him. It's nice seeing that he's still the same down-to-Earth guy he always was, just... a bit less stressed. And able to do fun small splurge things like buy a pre-owned car he's always wanted, or something. His "eh what do I care, I'm rich" line when Kevin drives away without actually getting a car wash is funny, too. Always wonderful to see Stevonnie! I enjoy their VA's voice work a lot. I'm also a fan of how the boarders utilize Stevonnie to explore big, heavy emotions in like... this very metaphoric, visual way, representing (as with their first ep in s1) things like anxiety as a glittering disco ball that swallows them up on the dance floor, or their heightened stress and anger at Kevin goading them in this episode building up until the road starts outright crumbling from underneath them in their perceived helplessness in the situation. It's very artistic, and I think it's neat.

Omg- being unfamiliar with that anime, I never knew about these references! Really cool to know- I love how nerdy Crewniverse is and how much they wear their passions and inspirations on their sleeves when boarding the show.

While it's pretty obvious that the title is a reference to F&F Tokyo Drift... the episode itself was actually inspired by an old 1998 anime called Initial D, the episode is plagued with references to it. The site where Stevonnie and Kevin race it's very similar to one of the race locations in Initial D called Akina Pass. The design of the "Dondai Supremo" that Greg bought and Stevonnie used to race was inspired by the 1992 Volkswagen Golf Mk2, with some elements of the 1986 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86... which is the main Car of the Initial D anime. The episode also plays homage to Initial D in other subtle ways... like using CGI Cars, utilizing the iconic Anime Speed Lines in the animation, and playing Eurobeat music which is very typical to hear in car-racing animes.
