I'm so excited to share one of my FAVORITE techniques with you!
Hatching gives a wonderfully traditional, rustic, and hand-crafted look to artwork. But it can be tricky to approach in a way that supports your overall illustration rather than overwhelms it! In this tutorial, I'll show you how I approach hatching to find the right balance!
This tutorial can be applied to ANY drawing medium, be it digital or traditional, but since I am working digitally, I will share what 2 brushes are my go to for creating hatching.
The, In will go over the basic types of hatching and which types I tend to prefer and use.
Then I will show you how you can create a simple hatching brush in clip studio paint for filling in large areas with hatching quickly.
And finally, we will get to the illustration demo, where I will guide you through the process of drawing hatching into a character illustration.
I hope you find this tutorial insightful! Enjoy!!
