Early Access week 1 report and Milestone 3
Added 2024-03-19 05:53:21 +0000 UTCEarly Access launch went as well as I could have expected! There are enough users that the server is always almost ways being used. This is useful for me to address stability issues and add features as people request them.
If you’ve been following my milestones from previous posts, I’ve set out 4 milestones before official launch. This Early Access is part of:
Milestone 3: Quality of Life
Over the last week I root caused and fixed 6 AI server crashes, and 1 web server crash. Another major fix was the auto textbox feature not working correctly and wreaking havoc in app. The good news is that server stability has significantly improved. I will continue to monitor and prioritize fixes for stability issues.
In addition, I have a list of to dos to improve quality of life, many are based on feedback from Patrons. Here’s my list of near term to dos:
- Automate Patreon signup (already in progress)
- Add outline button
- Add translate button for Japanese text field
- Deploy a text detection method that improves the rate of text detection without additional training data. This should have a noticeable improvement in missed bubbles/text boxes.
- Add text color selector
- Allow custom OpenAI API key
Once the above are done, I’ll be shifting focus back to training neural nets. This is the final Milestone 4: taking AI to the next level. The goal is to get as close to human lettering as possible with minimal intervention. This includes training new models and vastly expanding the dataset.

Thanks! For early access it'll be those 4 fonts. I will expand the font selection for public beta later this year. Whether people can use their own fonts is a different story might be logistical nightmare.

I tried a scan with your site, and i can't stress it enough: It's amazing! You are a life (and time) saver!

I will likely add a large batch of languages at once, or at least bidirectionaly, like Chinese< - >English. I have already built but never deployed vertical and right to left typesetting. Need training data for other languages in order to make it work well.
