Love that episode showed that, even if he wasn't smart enough to win, even if he as a human was weaker than all the other races, he still sacrificed his reputation & played the long game. He looked farther ahead than his opponents, instead of aiming for an immediate gain, he laid the groundwork for a victory in the future.

In particular, one of the characters, Gendo Ikari, had a habit of sitting like that while plotting, to the point that pose(especially tied in with the seemingly-glowing eye-hiding glasses) is referred to as the "Gendo Pose". https://i1.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/000/226/gendo.jpg It's definitely the kind of reference Sora would jump at the chance to make.
