It's crazy to think how far Shinji has come in a few episodes -- he hasn't changed as a character, but I love how by the end of this episode, he makes a point to show Rei that there is SOMETHING and SOMEONE that she has in this world, if nothing else. It's a very sweet moment and had to be the thumbnail this week.
But this series! Subverting my expectations once again, as we spend the episode preparing for a battle with this fortress-like Angel, have an introspective into Shinji's psyche going into it, prove Misato has a mind for military strategy, and that "saving Japan" is a bit of a group effort. I'm glad there wasn't another insane cliffhanger at the end of this episode...not sure if I'd been able to take it!

Yeah, lots of questions, right?! I'm really excited to find the answers, though! Please don't spoil me on anything with the plot, though! I will figure things out; there's just the mystery that I love! 2022-04-24 13:07:56 +0000 UTCAt this point it is painfully obvious the Angels are not the random monsters or animalistic invaders like kaijuu in Pacific Rim - the move with the drill shows they have tactics, strategy and technology. So. Who's controlling them? I kinda doubt it's the aliens, don't know why but... The meteorite, the tsunami flooding the world, the angels coming down to signal the end of humanity. sounds familiar, doesn't it. Rei's behavior is so... not childish. She is not acting at all like a schoogirl, like a friend or a love interest. More like an ancient tired mind. Did NERV... kind of plan that Shinji and Rei both might find a new purpose in each other? Doesn't seem like it, nobody is pushing them together.
