Ace of the Diamond Act II: Episodes 51-52 & Manga Volume 19 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

**ACE-WORTHY HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

The ending of this season was a beautiful "full circle" moment for our newly-crowned Ace, Sawamura, and an apt, neat way to round out this season, but....

...I'm diving into Volume 19 of the manga for Act II, picking up in Chapter 169 where the anime leaves off, and UHM, HELLO YAKUSHI VS ICHIDAI THIRD! I'm already hyped for what season four will probably start off with, backtracking to show us this match! Also, KOSEI AND SAWAMURA text buddies?! No, no fraternizing with the enemy here...

Thank you for watching and reading with me and for the support!

The loudness of Sawamura may bother some, but not this girl – I love how it’s developed throughout the series and with his role as the ace! Seriously, for TJ to throw us Kawabata and his backstory in the 11th hour of this season?! EXCUSE ME? I so agree that on a better team, he could have shone more – it makes Sawamura’s decision to come to Seidou all the more poignant, when you think about how it could have been if he’d stayed at home for high school. But seriously, I was getting misty-eyed on this player’s backstory we’ve known for two seconds, but MAN is it a cruel, gut wrenching backstory. He’s so sweet, though; I hope we see him again, too! And these coaches wanted to throw hands with a high school catcher, hahahaha!! I think Sawamura gets a moment to be petty; he never is, so we’ll let him have that little jab at Furuya – it gets him back for Furuya chiding him on how he got taken out so soon. And yessss, “Cheetah” and “Cap” – the power of the ace and his nicknames! :) I love that Sawamura, like Miyuki, wants to face people at the top of their game! Power couple, indeed? Also, Sawamura being introspective and self aware? We love to see it! Oh my GOSH, I did not catch what the announcer said! BWAHAHA, that is BRUTAL! I love that we get moments with Koshu showing his baseball prowess and Zono being supportive of Sawamura! It’s great! And I feel Chapter 169 was a PERFECT place to start the manga! Thanks for that! Yesss, I’m going to comment on Hoshida being Hosshan in the following week’s discussion; good to know Amahisa has a friend on the team! :P But yeah, him and Sawmura texting is just…it’s the BEST. I hope Sawamura gets to a point where he can call Amahisa his friend. :) I love how Amahisa is so cocky, but it’s not like…diva-ish like it is with Mei, but yeah, his team (with the exception of Hosshan haha) is over him. :P But he doesn’t care, so it’s fine, haha! Thank you for the kind words and comment! I figured out with this coming week that I can take most of my notes at the end of the chapter and just edit out that part, so I think it will make things more streamlined! :) Hopefully you all enjoy it! CHEERS!

Oh wow, thank you for all the kind words and support! I have loved the journey with Ace of the Diamond so far; I was really skeptical about it at first (not because of the length, but because it was about baseball), but now I GET the appeal of the sport and why so many people voted for the show! Thanks for the comment and kindness! And yessss, now we get to do deep dives into the manga! I can't believe we're here, but I'm so excited! :)

I know you're continuing with the manga, but with it being the end of the anime I just want to say thank you for reacting to the it! A 170+ episode slow-burn baseball series is a tough sell for a lot of people (it was for me too), but it has a funny way of just sucking you in, and then by the end you realize that you don't want it to be over lol. Anyways, loved your reactions and the in-depth discussions that followed and I'll definitely be hanging around for the manga

Sawamuras encouragement has just gotten better and louder as the ace lol. Saying whatever he wants as loud as he can 🤣 Kawabata is honestly everything to me at the end of this season lol. It's so tough that he ended up on a team that just couldn't match his own skill level but I love that they show how sometimes the best players in a league just end up on teams that can't keep up with them. It happens often. I looooove the way this show constantly has coaches cursing Miyuki for being so good lol. Its hilarious. The pitchers are fighting with the batters but Miyuki is almost always fighting the coaches lol maybe that shows what a high skill level he has that none of the players really can keep up with him. "Look everyone! Furuyas pitching well for the first time in weeks!" is one of the best things Sawamura has ever said lmao. He doesn't ever rub Furuyas nose in the fact that he's been struggling but he got petty for a second lol I love that Sawamuras nicknames have stuck to the rest of the team too lol. "Cheetah" and "Cap" are used by basically everyone and its amazing lol. The maturity that comes with Sawamura saying "this is how it should be" as Furuya starts pitching well just kills me. It's so sweet and it's the ultimate proof that Sawamura also hated the idea of getting the ace number from an injured Furuya. He didn't want to beat him at Furuyas expense he wanted both of them to be at the top of their game. Such a small detail also but I love seeing the first year trio in the crowd cheering. Asada, Kukki and Seto being the best friends 🥰 I'm never going to be able to watch Kawabatas backstory without crying lol. Its just heartbreaking for like no reason in the last episode of the season. I think the fact that he's such a sunshine character who also reminds me of Sawamura just makes it hurt that much more. That game also has my best example of how BRUTAL and harsh the baseball announcer is during these games lol. If you actually listen to the way he commentates sometimes it's crazy. They get their only hit off Furuya and when Kawabata runs to second and that double play happens, the announcer says "Their last glimmer of hope has been extinguished" lmao like what. That's so harsh when they were only at 2 outs 😭 I love that it shows how much respect Kawabata has for his mom. Him bowing to her and thanking her for making his lunches and washing his uniform just tugged at my heartstrings so much. He's such a sweet kid. I really hope we see him again. Its kinda crazy how someone we've never considered to be full of himself, came to this conclusion that he was being full of himself. It's this crazy kind of inner revalation for him that we didn't even get to see. I think one of the cool things that they showed in these last episodes was Koushus baseball smarts. Him and Seto came from a brilliant school of baseball where they played "brainy baseball". Koushu knows a loooot about it and I think its cool that while he was thinking over Yuis words about doing what they can for the team, he decides that his knowledge and his brain in terms of baseball could be an asset to them so he decided to go watch the Yakushi/Ichidai game so that he'd be able to offer his knowledge. I love that for him. Zono believing so much in Sawamura is just always so sweet. Not even just that but him saying that they would just have to score so much that his nerves won't even matter is so sweet and so vice captainly. I love it. Sawamura really figures out the best speeches to say lol. I loved it that he acknowledged that they're moving forward and that he's not stuck on the past anymore, that he's thinking of the present and the future. As he should. The reason I suggested 169 even though most of it is just a recap is 1. So I could set you at the right place that didn't include the beginning of that Norikane game but 2. It's so you could see that last page of Amahisa and Sawamura texting. It's the only part of that chapter that's different from the anime but it sets up them talking on a personal level. If I had set you at 170 I think it wouldve been jarring to go from the end of the anime leading into the Norikane game to at Yakushi randomly. The 4th batter for Ichidai, Hoshida, is also the player that Amahisa called Hosshan lol. Its some kind of nickname I guess but he's Hoshida. I love that Amahisa and Sawamura end up texting lol. I doubt Sawamura would necessarily call them friends since he seems so panicked about people knowing about it lol but I think its sweet that he's found another pitcher, a genius pitcher, that's interested in him on a skill level. Amahisa is so cocky with that stuff about holding Yakushi to zero runs lol. I can't wait till that part is animated cuz I think his VA will sound so good there. Also him being distracted by Raichi is so funny. The aura itself would absolutely distract me so I can't blame him there. Ichidai as a team is so over Amahisa lol. They can't deal with him and I relate so much lol they must roll their eyes constantly with him around. I like the confirmation we got that Amahisa does not care about nor is he interested in Mishima lmao. Poor boy is praising Amahisa in his head while Amahisa is just "not doing it for me at all dude" I love the spotlight on Hirahata, the center fielder and captain of Yakushi, where he talks about their pride as defensive players and how they refuse to let defense be Yakushis weakness anymore. It's so good. They've always been such an offense heavy team but it's great that they've stepped up their defense. Season 4 is definitely going to go back to animate the Yakushi/Ichidai game. Yakishi is Terajimas babies and he loves them almost more than Seidou. Since it's the end of someone's summer here and likely the end of their appearance on the show, he wouldn't skip it. Even if he doesn't do much with the anime he still has to approve it and he would never approve that. Also I'm absolutely fine with you taking notes for the manga lol. Can't wait for more next week 🎉
