Yona of the Dawn: Manga Volume 26 Reaction & Review!

**FANGIRLING AND HEADPHONE WARNINGS ABOUND**

OH, no big deal, nothing to see here, just HAK CONFESSING HIS LOVE FOR YONA!

And that's not all that's in this volume -- death, gore, tension -- I won't lie; the first third of this volume had my stomach in knots and my anxiety at a high! But Yona's strength, the resolve of our Five Star warriors and thunder beast, and Soo-Won coming FULL CIRCLE with his beliefs in the best way -- and that's all BEFORE the aftermath with Hak and Yona!

Kusanagi handles a miscommunication, talks about feelings, and in-character confessions superbly...I LOVE this series!

Our boy Hak with the dragons was sooo great! <3 And YES, Soo-Won putting Gobi in his place? SO SATISFYING!! I did end up feeling bad for Mizari -- he died in the end trying to save his friends and was far too young -- and that art of him and Zeno? GUT-WRENCHING!! I wanted more Five Stars, definitely! I hope we get more of the ones we have left in the future! And yessssss, I was so worried she would drag out that miscommunication, but she doesn't! :D It's resolved and we get the CONFESSION! YES! I'm so pleased!! :) :) Thanks for the comment!

Hak carring the dragons was such a great picture. It was such a powerful moment. Soo-won's line to Gobi was so satisfying. Mizari's death really gets to me. He seem like a kid that just has seen too much at a young age. And that art of Mizari and Zeno. :( I wish we would have seen more of the backstory of the five stars. I just need more of them. The long awaited confesion!! I'm really happy Kusanagi-sensei didn't use the misscomunication troupe for volumes and volumes but cleared it up in the same one.

I cannot IMAGINE waiting monthly/bi-monthly to get through this arc – WORTH it, but I agree, that would be an EXPERIENCE! And yes, it will be hard (once I’m caught up) to wait until we have a volume’s worth of content to read, but it will be worth it to see it in that format as Kusanagi intended! ^^ I agree, the insight into Hak’s trauma and how it’s affected him was VERY well done! I love how we get to see inside his head SO MUCH in this series! I LOVE that he draws inspiration from Yona and wants to get to a place where she is (and I love Jae-ha is the one to notice a lot of his, since he and Hak are so similar; their friendship is wonderful). Yessss, Soo-won remains a mystery box, but I love the crumbs that Kusanagi has given us over time. His not wanting to be king, despite taking actions that made him king, is still the most intriguing to me, but of course, I’m doing all I can to avoid any hints or clues – I have faith Kusanagi is going to give us answers all in due time! :) But seeing how layered he and Il really are has been fascinating so far! BUT YESSSSS, THE CONFESSION!! I’m glad y’all were fine with my freakout! And yes, I LOVE the dragons. Zeno is just “sage wisdom” personified in this childish package. I love him and the others so much; Kusanagi having clear COMMUNICATION between the Dragons, Yona, Hak – it’s all good stuff! Ah, I try to ask people not to tell me if arcs are their favorite or least favorite, if that’s cool! I want to go in without expectations, whether it’s hype or disappointment, so I can keep as blind and unbiased an eye as possible! Thank you for the kind words and comment, though! I’m honestly excited for any new Yona content we get! Have a good week, too!

I have finally caught up to your reactions! I read this arc when it came out several years ago. The grind of waiting monthly / bi-monthly for each chapter specifically in the last and this volume was an experience like no other. I've read it with the pacing it was intended to be read a couple times since then. It's one of my favorites now. This manga has amazing pacing, but reading them as they come out can affect your perception of that. I’m glad you still have a good chunk of the manga to read before you catch up. Okay, now onto the volume! I love the insight into Hak’s continuing development in this volume when it comes to his trauma. He’s come a long way since the water tribe arc, but he still struggles with hatred to those that hurt his loved ones. He was already a naturally protective person. I mean, look at what his career of choice was before the usurpation. The idea of serving Soo-won and Yona was his goal and something he idealized. He was incredibly happy with just the thought of it. That didn’t happen, though. The trauma of being betrayed and losing everything only heightened his protective nature. Now, he’s so terrified of being hurt like that again that he instinctively wants to get rid of any threat as soon as possible. Usually that being with the person's death. The internal monologue about how he wants to kill all those around him shows this really well. Thankfully, he’s learned up until this point that this is harmful not only to others but himself through the past couple volumes. This arc in particular was there to challenge him albeit in an indirect way as a bystander. He sees the harm of Kouren’s ways and hears Yona’s thoughts on stopping the cycle of hate. He’s come a long way and is inspired to what to be like her. It’s a small scene but it shows so much when he asks Yona and Jae-ha what he should do. Also side note I think it’s adorable that he asks Jae-ha internally too. Hak jokes around and makes fun of him, but in this scene, we’re shown how much Hak respects him and looks up to him in his ability to be in control of himself. I love their friendship so much The scene with Soo-won is amazing. I think even the most avid haters of his character enjoyed him at that moment. And yes we're seeing more glimpses into Soo-won’s relationship with Il. I feel like at the beginning of the series when we knew nothing about Soo-won it was easy to perceive Il’s distaste for Soo-won as there being something inherently wrong with him. Like maybe he could sense Soo-won was an “antagonist” or “evil.” Over the course of the manga we learned how harmful Il’s ways were for Kouka, though. We’ve learned how much of an extremist he was when it came to his belief in religion. We’ve learned that Soo-won doesn’t want to be king. We’ve learned that Soo-won isn’t inherently an antagonist and there is much more to what happened between Yu-hon, Il, and him than meets the eye. And now we’re learning that Il’s feelings on him may have been something more personal as he feels the need to compare his nephew to his daughter. I remember when I was reading these chapters it made me rethink everything. Like in chapter one, he doesn’t want Yona to marry him. He even reprimands him for asking her if she wants to ride a horse with him. Then you have small things like in the extra chapter where Hak beats Geun-tae at thirteen. Soo-won says he’d like to participate in the tournament but seems to doubt Il will let him. This was the point in that story that made me raise my eyebrows higher than ever before. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on this as we learn more Okay, the biggest thing in this volume is the confession. Your reaction and reenactment were everything. Thank you for that 😂😭 I also love the communication too. Everything from the dragon therapy to Yona / Hak having an actual conversation that clears things up. It’s just so satisfying. My favorite part has to be the dragons. The way Kusanagi implements their personalities with their reactions is everything. Zeno being a knowing older brother / parent/ grandfather / whatever he is - is everything 😂 I’m very excited for you to start the next arc next week (or maybe we’ll still transition out of the Xing arc). I don’t remember. Regardless, I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on the next arc. It’s my least favorite, unfortunately. But you’ve spun my thoughts on certain scenes / characters positively throughout your reactions. I'm excited to see what new ones you can introduce me when it comes to the next arc Thank you for your reaction. I hope you have a good week
