Ace of the Diamond Season 2: Episodes 1-6 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Season Two is HERE, y'all! I can't believe we made it!

Episodes 1-3 were recap, so I briefly talk about those and then it's ON with Episodes 4-6! We are diving headfirst into our first game of the fall tournament, with Teito, who just got back from NATIONALS and have won Nationals twice...so, you know, no big deal!

Inui may be one of my new favorite "opponent" characters and I'm not sure who's shadier: Mukai or Ochiai -- who -- hoo buddy, this man is just tryin to rub me the wrong way, isn't he? Hmmm....

Ace of the Diamond Season 2: Episodes 1-6 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Its interesting to me that you don't see Furuya and Sawamuras rivalry as productive. I personally think it's one of the most productive that I've seen

I'm SO excited to get into Season 2! :) And I can get Mukai saying he's the best among the first yers -- I'm really excited to have this cocky boy against our pitchers! And oooohhhh, I did NOT catch that about Inui! Hm, I may have a thing for these 3C boys! ;) Insanity -- thanks for that info!

Love season 2!! When Mukai said he was the best pitcher in his generation, i think he meant among all the first years. And honestly, he is probably right πŸ˜‚ he’s for sure on another level, i really love their battery. And did you notice that the Teiko catcher Inui (who is a 2nd year), is also the captain and clean up? The 3 C’s! Just like Miyuki and Harada! So crazy

Season 2, yay! Is it just me, or does the animation look better so far? I mean, it seems to have transitioned from the 00s' style to the 10s' style. The digital art just appears crisper. It made the rain setting be more immersive for me, or maybe that's just because it's overcast outside. And we really hit the ground running, almost going straight into the game! I agree with you about Ochiai. He makes it so easy for us to dislike him. Again, from a logical standpoint, having Seido prepare themselves for Mukai by having their own southpaw throwing side-arm might be good practice. But you can't just go from one form to the other like that. Ochiai (and I think Sawamura) knows, but doesn't care, because he doesn't see Sawamura as useful at all. At least he gets props for honesty by saying so, even if it's brutal and an abuse of Sawamura's current lack of confidence (which is unnerving in-and-of itself). And I'm very grateful Kataoka put a stop to it almost immediately. However, as I said previously, I think this sub-plot regarding Kataoka is weak. One of those weaknesses is setting-up such an obvious villain in Ochiai, that Kataoka might be forced to stay just because of the harm that will come to team collectively and players individually if he leaves. That does nothing to resolve the reason he had for resigning, whether out of responsibility or something else. For some reason, maybe because he's -just- arrogant and not bratty, I don't have as bad a first impression of Mukai as I did with Mei. With his precision, he kind of reminds me on Shunshin, but with a better team behind him. And his coach, Okamoto, reminded me of Todoroki too! Maybe he's Todoroki in 20-25 years! Furuya being Goldilocks made me laugh! And it also made me think, "what is his problem?"; and I've figured it out. He's an orchid. Only with everything perfect does it bloom. Too much water, too little water, too much sun, too little sun; it dies. But seriously, he had to be dragged from the mound (again!), when he so dismissively sent off Sawamura a few episodes back. He just does everything he can to make me dislike him. And to be honest, even if I did like him, it's not a productive rivalry if the only time we're going to see Sawamura shine is when Furuya is off his game. If Sawamura can't earn his way past Furuya, I'd rather Furuya not be there at all. There are plenty of rivals on other teams. To answer your question about a possible Season 4, I think it's a little too early. Season 3 ended in 2020, and the manga is only ahead by about 100 chapters. So, I would not expect another season before 2023. As for ships, I think you'll find that almost every possible combination has been tried. As far as story count on AO3, Furuya/Haruichi is Haruichi's #1 pair, but it's Furuya's #3 after Furuya/Miyuki and Furuya/Sawamura; and all are dwarfed by Miyuki/Sawamura, whose count is larger than the rest of the top 10 pairs combined. And, of course, there aren't many straight pairs given the demographics of the characters (although Miyuki/Rei is a thing O.O, unlike your inference in the OVA reaction! ;D). Lastly, since he's been given a name, I'm sure we'll be seeing Koshu again at some point. But as a middle-schooler, right now just enjoy his commentary!

Ah we're here lol. Season 2 my love. Already love the animation of season 2 so much. So in regards to a season 4, it hasn't been confirmed yet but it's definitely going to come. The manga isn't far enough ahead of where season 3 ends yet to justify a whole new season. I'm hoping we'll get an announcement of season 4 in 2022 and then a new season out in 2023 or 2024 (hopefully 2023 lol) but it's not confirmed properly yet. Also you do recognize Taiyous VA. He's voiced by the same person as Yamaguchi from Haikyuu and Moriarty from Moriarty the Patriot. Man episode 4 showcases the moment I started absolutely despising Ochiai. That was the worst thing he had ever done or said at this point. Not only was Eijun just trying to be friendly and including because he's a good person, but he also trusts him as a coach on the staff to help him. He trusts that he'll give good advice that will give Sawamura a leg up and instead he got manipulated by someone who doesn't care about the players at all other than Furuya. It's not even just the fact that he implied he was worthless AGAIN, but by telling Sawamura to switch to a SIDEARM practice pitcher, he's trying to break his form. Literally if Sawamura practices sidearm pitching too much it will affect and break his normal pitching form which can lead to injury and destroy his baseball career moving forward. It's such a careless thing to suggest to a player just because you deem him worthless. That moment was the last straw for me. Nothing he did from this point on would ever make up for that moment in my eyes. He had no issues with possibly injuring a child and destroying him as a pitcher. You were right, the spikey hair catcher is Kariba. He's great with Sawamura and I love that while Sawamura was throwing in the rain, Kariba came up and was talking about how he could learn something from Sawamura about how to sell himself lol. So cute. I love the scene after Sawamura shows his shitty sidearm throw where Kataoka talks him down off the ledge. It was very harsh at first but the things he said after about him eagerly practicing his outside pitch and how he can't change forms now because they'd lose otherwise was just so sweet. He knows exactly how to handle Sawamura and exactly what he needs to hear. Also the fact that he IMMEDIATELY knew who Sawamura would be referring to when he called Ochiai "sergeant" just further backs up the fact that Kataoka knows him really well lol. I love it. Ugh the whole team wanting to take Kataoka to nationals was so heart warming. They adore him so much. You can tell how much they love him and how much he loves them. It's so nice to see especially when you compare Kataoka to say Ukai from Haikyuu. Ukai is very expressive. He smiles with them, laughs with them, is very communicative and open with Kurasuno whereas Kataoka is so much more stoic and rough and strict but the fact that you can still visibly see the love from both sides is so refreshing and different. Also you're right. Furuya and Haruichi is actually a very popular ship in this fandom lol. There's a ton of stories where the main couple is Miyuki and Sawamura (duh canon) and a side couple is Furuya and Haruichi. Miyuki has the funniest/worst luck with draws and any event that requires luck lol. I mean to him it was great but for everyone else he sucks lol Visually I love this game a lot. The muted grey/blue filter over the whole game because of the storm and the rain is so pretty and the way Furuya looks on the mound in it is just so gorgeous. But really the shining star visually is MIYUKIS EYES. They like glow in this game and he looks amazing artistically. It remains one of my favourite visual games in this show. Ah. My boy Koushu. I'm glad you finally met him. I adore him so much lol. I won't give anything away but i really do love him a lot lol. Hes very edgy as I'm sure you could tell πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I love seeing people give Sawamura credit. The Teitou coach remembering him not just for his inside pitch but also for his ability to change the momentum of the game is just amazing to see. Talent recognizes talent and I love him as a coach so the fact that he recognizes the golden nature of Sawamura is beautiful. Just worked out for the best that he told them all about his inside pitches only to have Sawamura not able to throw them at the current time lol I can't even help my reaction to out loud saying "shut up Ochiai" everytime he comes on screen. Doesn't even have to talk and im just prepared for it. I hate listening to him talk lol. For some reason he wants all players to be PERFECT by the time they get to high-school and not helped to grow or develop. Zono can hit very well when given the proper instruction and help but Ochiai would rather he not be there at all. Useless tbh. I'm never going to get over the fact that the animators when Sawamura first came out and started to throw, decided to lift the filter a bit to show some sunshine coming through. I didn't miss that animators. You reinforcing Sawamuras sunshine boy status. I gotcha. I like your comparisons with Mukai and Mei. I'd say Mukai is basically Mei without the traumatic experience from Koshien. The flashback that haunts Mei from his first year Koshien experience where he threw that really wide ball and the opponents scored, Mukai didn't have an experience like that and you can tell. He never got humbled so he's like this lol. I love the way season 2 just jumps right into the tournament. No messing around just straight in. It makes a good pace for the season. I'm glad you're finally in it and I can't wait for next week 😊😊
