March Comes in Like a Lion // 3-Gatsu no Lion: Episode 30 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Yesssss, there’s so much given to us this week! I love Hayashida - he’s such an amazing character, teacher, and mentor for Rei! I’m not sure with the dad - I’m sure that Akari is leaving things out, but there is probably extra information there that Akari *doesn’t* tell us, but still - leaving your three daughters after your wife dies to go start a family with another woman? Doesn’t…lend me to believe he’s a great person, but who knows! We’ll see later, I suppose! Ahhh, but that emotional gut punch with Nikaido! T-T I feel they’re keeping it intentionally vague but still, Nikaido collapsing was heartbreaking enough this episode but it really got me in the heart 100%. And Rei’s reaction and Shimada telling it – my heart was so full this episode! But that’s a great point you bring up about Rei in this! What an episode! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words and I hope you enjoy the episodes to come! 😀

Ahhh, thank you for the comment and kind words! Hayashida is such a good role model, teacher, and character in general! I love that he sees past Rei as just a Shogi player but as a person too! It’s so sweet to see him wanting to help him! And Shimada not treading Nikaido like a child as well was just so good – and that connection to him calling Nikaido “kiddo” and relating to the village men is SO adorable! This episode was so great and I can’t wait for this coming week’s episode! Thank you!!

This was the episode that really cemented Hayshida as one of my favorite characters. He is such a good fatherly role model for Rei. He doesn't respect and admire Rei because he's good at shogi or because he's a prodigy. He is proud of him because he's trying hard and growing as a person. He sees how distraught and affected he is not being able to do more for someone he cares about. Hayashida just gives him and meat bun and a pat on the back and tells him he's doing good, something that is important to here every once in a while. Also I like how Shimada doesn't treat young Nikaido like a child, he treats him with respect when it comes to his goals of becoming better at shogi. I feel like he learned how to interact with children from all the elderly people he hung out with when he was younger. Also it's just my headcanon but I like to think the reason he calls Nikaido kiddo is because that was what the elderly people from his village called him and that just makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Great reaction can't wait to see more.

We get both, the Kawamoto sisters' dad's backstory *and* Nikaido's?! Feels like we have big treat this week :D Hayashida remains the best teacher in this show and I want him to get an opportunity to be the monster teacher that he threatens to be XD He deserves to go an wreak some havoc at this point. You know, with the way the whole information about the Kawamoto sisters's dad information is presented to us, it reminded me a lot of how, at the beginning I got the impression, and actually believed it for a good little while, that Kyoko was the one being chased by Goto instead of, as it turned out, it being the other way around. We get this information from Akari, but that's as seen by one person, someone that was also really emotionally invested in the whole thing and young, so I might call the whole thing a bit biased; not only that but Akari doesn't explain in great detail, so it might turn out that the whole situation is different than what the first impression is making us think. Not that it means that it'll turn out to be better, as we also learn with Kyoko and Goto that the situation remains a mess and quite inappropriate, but just that this show seems to like giving just enough information at first and then expanding on it and shedding more light on the whole affair and I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. I'm glad you brought that point up. And then we have Rei finding out about Nikaido's health issues. First of all, what is it with this show and never giving a full explanation of what the illness is? I mean, I get that it's not the point, as the point is how this sickness affects the lives of the afflicted, but I still would like to know much more details about it XD I cried, though, seeing Nikaido being robbed of the kind of things that make a childhood memorable and instead being so sick. It was sadder than I was expecting, even though it did go a lot how I had imagined it would. Rei admitting that he never wanted to ask more details about Nikaido's health even when he could was pretty interesting to me. I get where he is coming from as sometimes you just want to ignore a situation as much as possible in the hopes it won't exist as long as you don't pay it attention. How Rei will react, though, is something that really has my interest piqued because I don't know. I think Rei is mature enough now to not look or treat Nikaido any differently, but I also think that he will react in some way, as is natural.
