We're FINALLY reviewing volume 13 of the manga to start our coverage of season 5 AND some season 6 goodness and then watching this episode, which completely MELTED my heart!
Y'all know I will never pass up the chance to see Reiko flashbacks and compare her character with her grandson's and how similar and different they truly are! This was an adorable episode!

Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I’m so happy to be back to reviewing the manga - the volumes for Season 5 and 6 are SO GOOD! And a Reiko episode is such a blast! It’s fun how she’s a little theatrical, which Natsume is NOT – and yet, she does share that self-loathing that Natsume does. And I hated how she slept through the reveal that the yokai had connected with her, but glad that she maybe realized it by the end…and if she didn’t, her grandson got to be rewarded by his grandmother’s efforts. I’m curious if Natsume can learn from what she didn’t realize back then…we shall see! 😀

Thank you for another manga volume review – especially the slight differences between how Matoba is portrayed in the manga and anime are very interesting. The Usao parallel is very fitting! Agreed – always love a Reiko episode! She has a level of self-assuredness that I really enjoy: ‘I want to see your arrogant faces in tears when I beat you.’ 😂 It's a little theatrical, too. And at the same time she is so certain of being unwanted. That’s why I really love the scene under the tree – in the end she is certain and accepting of the fact that her plan hasn’t worked. And she essentially sleeps through the reveal of the connection she has made with these yokai. That was such a beautiful little illustration of how sometimes she experiences an inaccurate view of the relationships she has with others. Another really wonderful episode! 🥰 Looking forward to next week! 💙
