This episode we finally get to know the blue-haired prodigy, Miki! I really love his character already and the "longing" he has for the nostalgia of times with his sister. I cannot wait to see what he brings to the table in this bizarre rose-themed school!

Ahahahah, I love that - that Anthy is like a Disney Princess with her animals and Nanami is like Ursula as Vanessa when she gets smacked with all the animals when she tries to marry Prince Eric, haha!!

2024-07-31 22:44:15 +0000 UTCI TOTALLY could see Anno with Kaworu and the tree/piano scenes being a callback or acknowledgement of Ikuhara with Utena - creators paying homage to one another? We love to see it! And Nanami with these animals - I tell ya! *chuckles* She is growing on me as a character, though. But yes, Miki DOES seem the most grounded of the Student Council so far, or at least the least "outrageous" in that sense, which may be needed if you have Saionji and Touga on there! And we don't have much with Juri yet. But yeah, I'm super honored they're watching! That's so cool - and I can already tell this show will be fun for a rewatch! Thank you for the comment!

2024-07-31 22:38:12 +0000 UTCOne more interesting thing about simile is that in a musical context, it indicates that a specific section should be played similarly to previous passages! I wonder what that could have to do with Miki's current state of mind... I think part of the reason Utena is so nice to Nanami is that although she orchestrated the entire thing last episode, she's behind the scene and people don't know it's her doing.

Although I've never seen any acknowledgement that this one in particular was intentional, Anno & Ikuhara have referenced one another so it wouldn't surprise me if Kaworu's piano under a sunlit tree, was a call back to Kaoru Miki's 'Sunlit Garden', it could be... Either way, it's such a pretty piece of music. About the episode, after dealing with the likes of Saionji & Touga (and Nanami, sort of), Miki at least gives us the sense that the student council are not just a bunch of mustache twirling villains and that at least there's a bit more to them so that's nice. It's kind of awesome Shark took note of your videos, his Utena videos were also pretty great, he really took a liking to this show if he's looking for a rewatch already.

Also, they get a Team Rocket-esque sequence courtesy of Touga sometimes! What is not to love. Also, Nanami is so awful, I love her.
