With the second level done, the Anvil Quarter is now finished and Brazenthrone looks a lot less like The Dwarven City of 10,000 Desk Jobs. As I mentioned in the last post, the next Brazenthrone map is th...

The Kothoa - The Dual Harbor of Carthage - Patrons' Edition

The Carthaginian harbor is one of those things that has to have been imagined by a fantasy artist, except it wasn't. It was real and this is, from what we know, what it looked like. On the left is the merchants' harbor, built for trade, with a chain boom at the entrance that can be raised or lowe...

The Harbor of Carthage - Work-in-Progress

I mentioned in the last post that I'm going to be in Spain for a few days and I wanted to get this done before I left. Well, after a few days of doing literally nothing but drawing, this is as far as I got. There will be second floors for a few buildings and, of course, I'm going to color it, but...

Brazenthrone - The Anvil Quarter - Work-in-Progress

Here's the Anvil Quarter, ready for the scanner. This actually took quite a bit of research to draw. I read about metalworking in the middle ages, glassmaking, foundries, ceramics and enamels, stonecutting, coin minting, hammermills... all kinds of stuff. I wanted it to look right and I think it ...

Anchorage Isle - Everyone's Edition

In honor of my wife's birthday and the 1-year anniversary of the site, I've decided to give away everything for this map. All the patron content is free for everyone (attached below).

Be sure to check out the DM notes if nothing else. There's lore about the distillery, which makes the world...

Merchants’ Trade Port Island – The Ink

I just wanted to drop this off to show you the finished inks. That's 51 buildings in all (including 4 outhouses, but still). All right, no big speech or anything, I'm gonna get back to work on the colors.

Merchants' Trade Port Island - Work in Progress

First of all: yes, that is seriously my phone. Now you know. I'm the last person on earth with a phone that folds in half. I'll give you a minute to finish laughing.

All good? Okay, so these are the pencils for most of the merchants' trade port island. There are a number of smaller outlying...

The 12th Cartographic Congress - Runoff Vote

The vote has tied between two maps, so we need to put 'em in the Thunderdome. You know how this works. Two maps enter, one map leaves.

Senator Anders proposes a fantasy harbor of Carthage.

Senator Parker proposes a huge man-of-war, the flagship of a fleet.

This vote will remain ...

The Assassins' Monastery - Work in Progress

So, this is the next map, the Assassins' Monastery. Originally, it was meant to be a keep, but Anders, who proposed it to the Cartographic Congress, suggested giving it some form of cover, so it ostensibly became a monastery.

Also, this map has some roots in reality: the design was inspired...

Since we're collecting everything now, here's a collection of all the DM notes so far. I'll be posting all the DM notes here from now on and I'll probably collect everything into a single .pdf every few months.

This is also where I'll be putting other random stuff that doesn't fit into the ...

Milby's Maps Can Into the Future!

I'm going to go through the back catalog and make VTT versions of every map that doesn't have one. For those that do, I'm going to make Fantasy Grounds versions and resize the Roll20 versions that are over 7MB. I'm going to make 1-inch-grid print versions of every map.

A Question for Roll20 Users.

So, I've recently read that, despite the fact that Roll20 uses a 70x70 pixel grid size, they recommend making maps at a 140x140 pixel size. I'm not 100% clear on why this is, but since I've never had anyone complain about my Roll20 maps being 70x70px, I thought I'd ask your opinions on the matter...
