Shower grate

Meanwhile, Nic is adding the finishing touches to the Teak grating that will be in the head. This particular project has been a long time in the works, mainly in-between more critical tasks. It looks beautiful!

White Oak!

Just in case anyone was wondering, there is still a LOT to do! Today Patrick is planing some white oak (offcuts from milling the deck beams all those years ago!) for a pretty big project in the forepeak - constructing the chain locker / spurling pipe.

It's winch time!

These winches have been a long time coming, but there's been a lot of preparation and other jobs that had to happen before we could fasten these down on deck. These will be used for controlling sheets and running backstays, among various other things.

It's time to talk SAILS!

Tally Ho's sails are going to be a transatlantic collaboration, which seems entirely fitting for this project. I'm really excited to be working with 2 fantastic sail-lofts - Ratsey & Lapthorne in the UK, and NW Sails and Canvas here in Port Townsend.

I'll be posting in more detail about...

Capstan transport needed!

Help needed! We need to transport Tally Ho's Capstan from Georgia to Washington state - nearly 3000 miles across the USA.

Keith Rucker has been doing a fantastic job working on Tally Ho's capstan, and has been making detailed videos of the process so far - linked above is the latest v...

EP183. Raising Tally Ho’s topmast (without a crane)

In this episode we raise the topmast - this is an interesting operation because we are raising the top of the spar much higher than any of our hoisting points. I explain how it’s done and then we get on with it! After that Bob and I climb the rig to take a closer look and install the wind instr...

Topmast..!

It's time to put the topmast up! Here we are just hoisting it from the ground up to deck, where we will re-rig it to hoist up through the doublings to protrude above the lower mast and extend the height of the rig by around 20'. The spar is hollow spruce, so it's very light for it's size!  View Post

The saloon... !

Well, it was so nice having the boat in "show-mode" for a couple of days! It's all covered up again now and the cushions have been removed, but we got some good photos first.

One question remains - what shall put on the big bulkhead above the settee?!

EP182. Below deck on Tally Ho - Upholstery and stained glass!

In this episode we take a look at lots of ongoing and completed projects inside the boat. Leather upholstery, mirrors, lamps, and a liquor cabinet with backlit stained glass! Finally we remove all the covers and tape to get a real look at the progress in the interior of the boat so far.

Engine room cabinet

Zeal has been making a very nice custom tool cabinet in the engine room. We were planning to just mount a toolbox in here but there wasn't quite enough room between the fuel tank and the bulkhead, so we just took the drawers out and built a custom cabinet around them! These shallow metal drawers ...

EP181. Mounting the Bowsprit did not go exactly as planned!

In this episode we attempt to run out the bowsprit… several times! But things do not go quite as planned.

Tile!

We finally decided on a tile design for the woodburner alcove / heat-shield - what do you guys think?!

Luckily we have a resident ceramics expert to lay the tile and grout the seams. We are mounting the tile on cement-board for extra heat protection, and also for ease of installation and di...

A great Teak grate!

Is it really a classic yacht if there isn't a teak grate somewhere onboard?! Nic has been doing a great job putting this together - but where will it live, do you think?

Bowsprit Step / Turning Lignum Vitae on a lathe

In this episode we catch up with a lot of work that Bob has been doing modifying and adding to the “bitts” or the “samson posts”, to accept the heel of the bowsprit. We also catch up with the rest of the team and their various jobs, and even take a glimpse into the world of the duchess.&n...

...spoiler alert!

We have some really beautiful and functional woodwork coming up on tomorrows video! This perspective may be a little confusing, does anyone know what we are looking at here?

Chain Gypsy!

This photo may not look like that much, but for me it's extremely exciting! This is the new Gypsy for Tally Ho's original Capstan. This piece will grab the links of chain and hold on to them while the capstan rotates, thus pulling the chain and anchor in towards the boat. This Gypsy is custom-mad...

We miss sailing!

These shots are from our last crew sail in the fall / autumn, with our friend Amber (Sail Port Townsend). Who knows, perhaps sometime this year we will be out there sailing Tally Ho?!

First photo is on 35mm film, 2nd photo is a still from drone-footage.

A new life for old Teak...

Bowsprit!

David and Bailey apply the final coat of finish to the bowsprit! This spar will be ready to run out over the bow of Tally Ho very soon.

Rebuilding... the mezzanine
