Hi everyone! Its been a while since I posted on Patreon. I just wanted to give you a quick update. I finished filming Tuesday's video yesterday, and I will be editing it all weekend. I'll be covering the history of Halloween as a religious holiday from its origins in pre-Christian Ireland through to...

Hey everyone! Just wanted to send out a quick note. Another video drops tomorrow: 3 Famous People Who Majored in Religion. Hope you like the more light-hearted topic!

I've also just finished the research for my first September video: "Freud on Religion," which is slightly less light-hearted....

800 subscribers!

We passed 800 subscribers today! According to my analytics, the channel is averaging about 70 new subscribers per month, so hopefully that means we can pass 1000 by the end of the summer. For whatever reason, I see 1000 as a symbolic number for when a YouTube channel becomes "serious." Thanks again ...

Video Schedule for June

Hi everyone. I just wanted to send out a quick update. I'm working on Tuesday's video...which is something a little different. It is a video essay (spoken word with accompanying video) that explores the thought experiment: "Would Alien First Contact Destroy Religion?" As weird as this may sound, a l...

New Video on Decian Edict

Today's video returns to the Varieties of Early Christianity series with a sequel of sorts. 8 months ago I published a video on why the Romans persecuted Christians, but I glossed over the big events under Decius and Diocletian. Here is a follow up to that video!

Bill Maher vs. Ben Affleck behind the scenes

Hi everyone, I hope you got a chance to watch my latest video. My intent was to show some "real life" examples of how knowing about religion can be helpful in daily life (John Kerry, Bill Maher, and Reza Aslan). Since so many of my friends on Facebook and Twitter are religious studies students/schol...

Starting research on next episodes

Hi everyone! I hope you enjoyed the last episode on the invisibility spell. My aim was to destabilize our view of "rationality" and "irrationality" when considering magical ritual. In pre-modern societies, magic was rational in it's own way...even if we reject it as un-scientific today in the 21st c...
