Moves that WWE 2K motion capture artists had trouble with

We spoke to Colt Cabana, who also did motion capture work for WWE video games, and he credits the programmers for putting in moves that fans want to see even though they're not used on WWE programming. He pointed out some specific instances -- Evan Bourne's version of shooting star press, Melina's splits and Roman Reigns' Superman punch -- as moves motion capture artists couldn't pull off. Adam Pearce and Sonjay Dutt were both said to have tried to do it as well, but there were some unique footwork spots that Reigns did that were difficult to replicate.

I didn’t think it was that difficult, but man am I wrong. I didn’t realize you had to get their move down to specific theatrics and movements

They might have eventually. But with the road schedule back then, a bunch of appearances (because big dog) and the already minimal family time, they try to avoid having the superstars themselves motion capture every single one of their moves because it takes quite a while. Unfortunately this can be a detriment to the game. Also why a lot of older games hand-animated (pre-mocap) moves felt more authentic (the Vince McMahon Stunner and People's Elbow in the older games were FANTASTIC)

People still 💩 on Reigns but that man just literally moves different. A little bit of good booking and he's the star he could've been years ago. I think an accidental positive side effect of it taking so long is he got to become more complete as an in ring worker.

I understand Evans and Melinas and I’m nowhere near a motion capture expert but couldn’t they just call Roman in to do the Superman punch?

Great story! But I do need to know this Canyon Ceman story... is there an estimated timetable about when we'll learn more?
