Lazarus by Greg Rucka & Michael Lark

This is a series I can't get enough of. From the gritty but beautiful artwork and the badass but complex characters, Lazarus is an infinity compelling dystopian romp. Taking place in a world run by a handful of families rather than nations, with Forever Carlyle being a family's guardian.

It serves as great example of how a strong enough protagonist allows the story to vary its tone. Forever's depth lets the storytelling become an spy-thriller, romantic espionage, and war story without ever stretching plausibility.

It's world may be fiction - for now - but its characters are real.

Devil Daggers by Sorath

While I may not be the sort to log in 20+ hours into a one level score-chaser, there's no denying that Devil Daggers is a memorable experience, no matter how long you play it for.

With lovely Quake era visuals and tight gameplay, this addictive game perfectly captures tension in a shooter, where 150+ seconds feels both like a rush and an eternity.

My high-score was 194. Can you beat that?

Lucky Number Slevin by Paul McGuigan

This film is a hidden gem in crime fiction. Everything from the superb cast, to the witty dialogue, and elegant filmmaking filled a gap during a time when Quentin Tarantino and Guy Richie had moved away from it.

But unlike Tarantino and Richie who made their crime films with low budgets and minimalist filming techniques, McGuigan's style blends set-design with modern editing. Transitions are seamless and the way this movie changes its tone during the runtime is a thing of beauty.

It's a film that'll have you smiling upon discovering the origin of the Kansas City Shuffle.
