Raycevick's Recommendations: Crank
Added 2020-05-11 18:54:58 +0000 UTCI seem to have an affection for movies with characters that very rarely show any, and if there's a lack of anything in Crank, aside from physics, it's affection. These characters are completely despicable. Vile, perverted, questionable at best people, and the chaos that ensues around them is the ultimate slow motion train wreck.
In a good way!
It is hilarious to watch "Chev Chelios" hold up hospitals with a Deagle, ride police motorbikes with no handlebars, and shoot someone with a finger gun, and that's just scratching the surface. What I think keeps me coming back to the movie though, is despite its obvious power fantasy tendencies, there are breaks in the action, introspection with the character, and even a conclusion that's cheesy yet heartfelt at the same time.
The legacy of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's collaboration was short lived and not held in high regard after flops like Gamer & Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, but Crank I think will always standout from that bunch, even if for some, it's merely the insane premise.
