I sort of feel for edgy Comedians. They'll always have people following them for the edge, and not necessarily the point. Jim Jefferies rather encapsulates this. Previously starting shows with a full pint in hand mocking Lesbians and spewing the word cunt, to being married and hosting a late-night show, you're bound to have people complain you've gone soft.
What's enjoyable about Jim's new special, is that it doesn't feel soft, but it also doesn't feel like he's just dusted off an old character. Most of the jokes aren't just funny, but spoken with retrospect and experience. It's kinda to Comedy specials what NIN's Hesitation Marks was to albums.
It's unlikely to appeal to those who want the pure rage and attitude of earlier works, but will to those who see the context of those earlier works, and is interested in seeing the creator acknowledge their own evolution.
