Update, Pause, and Personal Thoughts

Hello everybody.

I know I've been quieter than usual on Patreon, Twitter, and Discord recently, so I thought to maintain transparency I'd make this post. Starting with information and concluding with my thoughts surrounding them for those interested.

1. I'll be pausing the Patreon again due to the lack of content, but intend to host a Post-Video hangout and post Randomly Mine.

2. All technical issues seen on Twitter have been resolved, and I've put in enough gameplay to wrap up the script. Having just recorded, all that's left is editing, and immediately after this one I plan to do a piece on Dangerous Driving with its MP update almost out. Spoiler alert, buy GRIP instead.

I've been stressing myself over my poor scheduling this month, mostly because two years ago I was able to post bi-weekly consistently. But I've recently come to understand why that was the case.

Lets take for example, the Ghost in the Shell video, as its the closest comparison to my latest. There were four games shown over a half an hour and I managed to make that in two weeks... but not really. The PS1 game was completed in two hours. The PSP game broke. And the PC Multiplayer shooter I had already played over years. So the only game I really needed to play heavily in that timeframe was the PS2 game, and that game's still only six hours. After that, most videos either focused on a single-game or topic. I always used to associate it with video-length because it made sense at a glance. If I was working on a long Years Later video, I'd come up with a smaller topic like Modern DLC Issues that could be done immediately after.

The reality was though that BF1's DLC revived a thought I already had for years, and just happened to align with a big project's release; the length of the video was almost irreverent. Now that I've caught myself branching out into multiple games that build a narrative within one video, that brought challenges I hadn't anticipated. The struggle with my Wolfenstein video wasn't its duration, but the amount of time needed to pack its information & thesis into that duration.

The result is that I'm starting to consider revising this Patreon to a per-video model sometime in the future as it'd better account for videos that require more time to make due to the volume of content analyzed. I'm honestly not ready for that shake-up yet, but I think it's important to put the idea out there.

Thank you all for your continued support, it means more than I can express; now I've gotta get back to my bitchy wife known as Adobe Premiere.

Best wishes,
Raycevick

Comments

I should clarify though that I'm only mentioning my personal preference. Ultimately if you decide to restructure to a per video basis I'm happy with that too.

I definitely prefer the consistency of the monthly pledge, and don't take issue with lulls in content. I'm here for the quality like many others.

I'll echo much of what others have said here. Per video is cool, if you'd rather do that, but I know I have no problem continuing monthly support (with or without pauses). Do whatever eases your stress and mind!

Keep the montlhy payment plan and don't worry about a regular release schedule. I'm a patron because I like the quality of your work, not the quantity of it.
