Why is today Patreon Post late? ...Because I slept in and forgot to schedule, but also because! While I do love Music, Movies, and Shows, I do understand that what I'm known for discussing most of all is games, and that when I play a really good game, I should probably recommend it, and Amid Evil is a damn good game.
Clearly taking notes from classics such as Hexen, as well as John Romero's original pitch for Quake, Amid Evil is an FPS in disguise. It might have Axes, Staffs, and Spears, but make no mistake, this is an Arena shooter in the vein of ID classics. There's Lighting Rod's which chain to make multiple enemies explode. There's staff's that fire exploding planets. Even the default Axe you start with is a grand time, chopping enemies into pieces.
But what really ascends this game's phenomenal enemy, weapon, and level design is the Art. While basing itself on the Retro aesthetic with chunky character models and grainy graphics, Amid Evil is one of the most beautiful games I've experienced. Each Campaign has its own distinct art-style that manages to maintain a certain consistently to make the game addictive.
Of all the Retro style shooters I've played in recent years, Amid Evil might just be the best I've played yet. If DOOM Eternal's March 20th release date is proving to be too agonizing, this will almost certainly distract.
