Previously on Patreon, I've recommended Avatar: The Last Airbender. An All Ages cartoon with a superb story, memorable cast of characters, and fascinating world. On Television, viewers got to see where the world went in The Legend of Korra, but for Novels, readers get to see how the world used to be.
And as I've expressed to multiple friends; Netflix, who announced a Live Action Adaption of The Last Airbender, have royally cocked up. Because while they're attempting to create something most viewers will only be entering with skepticism, they could've adapted something made for the small screen, in this book.
The Rise of Kyoshi isn't game of thrones. No f-bombs, orgies, or beheadings, but it definitely presents the world of Avatar in manner that Nickelodeon would never dare. It's basked in a sea of gray that previously relished in good vs evil. So many characters are fundamentally flawed, our hero Kyoshi very much included, and seeing them weep, bleed, and break would be Television gold, but certainly just as gripping on the page.
