I know, I know. Recommending Cowboy Bebop is about as cliché as recommending Nine Inch Nails for Music or Fight Club for film... I've done both of those, but another reason I'm doing this is having rewatched Bebop and come around to it. This was the first Anime I saw, and came away from the experience rather underwhelmed.
Ghost in the Shell ended up being the first Anime I really loved, but having seen various other shows and films, coming back to Bebop, it really is a masterstroke in everything that it does. It's visually gorgeous, sonically spectacular, and in terms of storytelling, it's cinematography, character development, and pacing are textbook.
It really is amazing this came out in 1998, being that the characters, themes, and subject matter confronted are things most shows to this day pat themselves on the back for broaching 1/10th as effectively as Bebop does.
Don't go into it expecting your life to be changed, just go in expecting a finely crafted piece of work from top to bottom, and let the character's adventures take you through any emotion possible.
