Previously, I recommended a movie that doesn't have a whole lot to analyze, but has a whole lot of fun packed on-screen. Sky Captain And The World of Tomorrow is very much in the same mold. It's the sort of movie you imagine would've been made in the 1930's if the black & white generation had access to this technology. Speaking of black & white...
WARNING: You must watch this movie in Black & White. Desaturated, the movie looks gorgeous in its shots, composition, and gloriously dated CG. However, in color, the film honestly looks hideous with what seems to be a horrible filter added in at the last minute by studio executives.
Ironically, this throwback movie was ahead of its time, in a modern world with streaming services and over the top projects like Kung Fury, this movie I think would've found an audience had it been released today, and tragically, its creator never made anything again.
All that can be done then, is enjoy this film for what it is.
