During my childhood, action films were judged by car chases. So when Ronin was heralded as having one of the best, my Dad let me watch the car chases sequence. Not the rest of this R-Rated spy-thriller, obviously, but I didn't care, I was satisfied with that.
Seeing it on Netflix recently though, I thought "well, lets judge the rest of the movie." I didn't realize what a treat I was in for. Ronin is a great goddamn movie.
It's cast is all-star, the dialogue, pacing, cinematography, and shootouts are all top notch, and it's an action film with lots of respect for the viewer. The characters are (almost) all ex-military/spies in a post-cold war era, as a result of that, they keep things close to their chest.
But even in this brutal world, there's still room for empathy, respect, and admiration. This film is exactly how I'd wanna portray a modern Single Player Rainbow Six game. If you've seen Bourne, Bond, and Bauer, but haven't seen this, do yourself a favor and give it a try.\
