Yeah, it was the exact reversal of Psycho. Norman Bates hears his mother's voice and kills people while the audience thinks it's his mom. Pamela Vorhees hears her son's voice and kills people while the audience thinks it's her son.

That scream, LOL. You guys are so much fun.
Being a person who didn't know a Jason even existed when I saw the movie in its first run (at a drive-in, even), I freakin' love watching first-time reactions by younger people . Makes it even more of a surprise for them because they think they already had the killer spoiled due to pop culture.
Another thing I like is that this movie actually gave a reason for "killing the people that have sex" trope - some counselors were having sex instead of watching out for the safety of the campers.

I absolutely love Sam's reaction to Jason jumping out of the lake. 40 years later, still scaring people.
Carrie (1976) had the first jump scare ending in cinema history. Friday the 13th is the second.

Bit of trivia: that was an actual snake killed on-screen.

Jason was only 11 years old when he "drowned" so I would think it was a "normal" parent/child relationship. Norman Bates was a full adult and still attached to his mother.
Too bad Mrs. Voorhees didn't live to see her son's accomplishments. She would have been proud.

If you continue then you'll get Jason in the rest of the films.

I'm thinking they kind of had a relationship like Norman Bates and his Mother . Mrs Voorhees has taken the personality of her son. Which also gave her the ability to talk like Jason

To start the Friday The 13th series off with a female killer was pretty ballsy

Now you two can answer that question in Scream. Who was the killer in Friday The 13th 😃😃

Night of the Living Dead (1990) is a solid fucking remake. Tony Todd is SO GOOD in that. I might just suggest it over the original!

Was brilliant 😄
At least Schmitt was bracing himself for the water scene,he said "I don't like this" ,Sam was totally relaxed and thinking, yeah this movie is over

Great reaction,really enjoyed it
Sam was super on edge for the latter quarter of the movie, the stress on her was clearly visible, then Mrs. Voorhees gets decapitated and Schmitt is like "oh we can relax now"
me knowing what was coming was like 😳😳 eh

Sam actually screamed! I usually hate finding humor at others’ expense, but that was damn funny. Sorry, Sam. 😆

I was gonna wait for the YouTube edit because I've seen this movie a gazillion times already and am so bored by it. But I didn't have the patience so I watched along. Damn, how different it is watching something again for the first time through someone else's eyes! That was a lot of fun. I'm actually gonna watch part 2 now... lol. Anyhow, glad you both enjoyed it so much :)
And, Sam, your scream at the boat scare was probably the best one yet! Definitely horror movie-level quality right there :)

Savini did a great job on Friday the 13th and Creepshow but I think his best work was on Day of the Dead. The zombie makeup and the gore effects were phenomenal.

I agree! 1990 "Night of the Living Dead" was a pretty good remake-- starring "Candy Man" himself (Tony Todd).

And let's not forget Night of the Living Dead. Tom's 1990 first go at directing a motion picture. Not to take away from the original but he was the best choice to do the remake.

Friday the 13th made a ton of money on a tiny budget, so of course they hurried up and came up with a sequel. Part II came out less than a year later in 1981. (There was a new Friday movie almost every year in the 80's). There are surprises to come but no spoilers so there's not much to say about Part II. I'm definitely looking forward to your video on it and really enjoying all the horror movies on the channel.

You've learned the answer to a horror movie trivia trick question: Who is the killer in "Friday The 13th"?
It's Jason's mother! Jason doesn't kill until the sequels. 😉
This classic features practical horror effects of the great Tom Savini. "Creepshow" (1982) is the best of Tom Savini's work, in my opinion.
Screenplay by Stephen King... Directed by George Romero... practical effects by Tom Savini... a horror movie 3-punch combo!
Could we mark down "Creepshow" for spooky season 2022? 🎃
