Yeah, it was the exact reversal of Psycho. Norman Bates hears his mother's voice and kills people while the audience thinks it's his mom. Pamela Vorhees hears her son's voice and kills people while the audience thinks it's her son.

Being a person who didn't know a Jason even existed when I saw the movie in its first run (at a drive-in, even), I freakin' love watching first-time reactions by younger people . Makes it even more of a surprise for them because they think they already had the killer spoiled due to pop culture. Another thing I like is that this movie actually gave a reason for "killing the people that have sex" trope - some counselors were having sex instead of watching out for the safety of the campers.

Damn, how different it is watching something again for the first time through someone else's eyes! That was a lot of fun. I'm actually gonna watch part 2 now... lol. Anyhow, glad you both enjoyed it so much :) And, Sam, your scream at the boat scare was probably the best one yet! Definitely horror movie-level quality right there :)

2021-10-13 22:44:46 +0000 UTCFriday the 13th made a ton of money on a tiny budget, so of course they hurried up and came up with a sequel. Part II came out less than a year later in 1981. (There was a new Friday movie almost every year in the 80's). There are surprises to come but no spoilers so there's not much to say about Part II. I'm definitely looking forward to your video on it and really enjoying all the horror movies on the channel.

Jason doesn't kill until the sequels. 😉 This classic features practical horror effects of the great Tom Savini. "Creepshow" (1982) is the best of Tom Savini's work, in my opinion. Screenplay by Stephen King... Directed by George Romero... practical effects by Tom Savini... a horror movie 3-punch combo! Could we mark down "Creepshow" for spooky season 2022? 🎃
