In between the two films when released were trailers done by Rob Zombie, Edgar Wright, Rodriguez and Eli Roth for fake movies. I’m sure you’ve heard this by now.

In case it hasn't already been mentioned, the Sheriff (who you noted was also in Kill Bill) makes one more appearance in From Dusk Till Dawn, in which he engages in a quite entertaining conversation with a liquor store owner in a scene that firmly establishes the film's tone. =D

2022-07-15 18:29:00 +0000 UTCStunt Man Mike is heavily inspired by Burt Reynolds characters particularly the Bandit in Smokey and the Bandit. Stunt Man Mike is essentially an evil version of the Bandit. That movie is a classic and I hope you two watch it!

They do play AM's own French version after the English version tho. Perfect end credits song for this movie, that's for sure.

2022-07-11 04:13:19 +0000 UTCOne theory I've heard floated about the movie is that the first half of the movie isn't even real, but actually what Stuntman Mike is picturing when he is plotting his kills, and then the second half is what actually happens when he tries it. Not sure if I totally buy it, but there is the drastic stylistic and tonal switch between the two halves of the movie, and it's fun to think about anyway. A more convincing read is that Stuntman Mike, even if he was a stuntman, is ultimately a big poser. The movie is a tribute to the insane bravery and skill of Zoe Bell, who is the real deal, and that's why she can totally kick his ass. The action movies cited in the film are generally American movies, and of course Zoe Bell is from New Zealand, not Australia, but this movie is also in the tradition of a wave of action/exploitation movies out of Australia in the 1970s that was given the nickname Ozploitation. In particular, there are two movies featuring real-life stuntman Grant Page (who worked on the Mad Max movies, among others) playing himself: Stunt Rock and Deathcheaters. Stunt Rock in particular is a really fun, goofy little movie where Page hangs out in LA with a reporter and an actress while doing a bunch of stunts, intercut with a concert by a rock/magician act known as Sorcery. I'm sure if you put it up it would be the least-successful video imaginable because I imagine less than 50 of your subscribers have seen it, but it is a ton of fun. I also recommend the great Ozploitation horror-thriller Roadgames, which features Jamie Lee Curtis in an on-the-road Alfred Hitchcock homage (a friend of mine dubbed it Rear Windshield, which is a great joke and very fitting).

As Mr. Writhms says below, the movie was originally released in theaters as a double feature experience called Grindhouse, with Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror attached, as well as numerous fake movie trailers and other bits. Real fun stuff. But I guess if I'd thought about it, it would've been obvious that you'd only have seen the longer version, given you saw the movie all by itself.

Another Great Kurt Russell Movie that is not on your Watchlist is "Executive Decision" from 1996 with Halle Berry and Steven Seagal !!! Great Action Film !!! Another Great Early Movie of him is "The Deadly Tower" from 1975

2022-07-10 08:37:28 +0000 UTCThat was a fun reaction. I have to agree with Joe (above), I think the dialogue is the weakest part of this movie (which feels weird to say about a Tarantino flick.) That being said, I think Kurt Russell's and Zoe Bell's performances make this into something kinda special. Kurt's nervous breakdown after getting shot, followed up by his screaming and wailing after his car is totalled are so much fun that I kinda feel like a sadist :S And Zoe's "I'm okay!" is so perfectly timed/delivered... she's just freakin' hilarious. This isn't my favourite Tarantino, not by a long shot, but I'm so glad he tried something different.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy QT dialogue but he over did it a bit for a horror film which made it feel slow. I hope QT does at least one more horror flick before he retires.

2022-07-09 21:08:38 +0000 UTCSo the cast credits at the beginning say "Zoe Bell as herself", Zoe Bell(the New Zealander from the 2nd half of the film) is an actual professional stunt person who was Uma Thurman's stunt double in the Kill Bill movies. She's basically playing a fictional version of herself in this movie. Zoe did all her own stunts in Death Proof.

2022-07-09 18:57:01 +0000 UTC“Death Proof” was part of a double feature release called “Grind House”. You got to see 2 movies for one price in the theater. The 2nd feature is a horror movie directed by Tarantino’s BFF Robert Rodriquez, called “Planet Terror”. They both purposely had the grainy 16mm film look with the bad editing to resemble those cheap exploitative films that used to release in the 70s (the films Tarantino and Rodriquez grew up watching). A grindhouse is an old term. It was a local theater that showed cheaply made horror and action movies. New York City in the 70s had a bunch of those theaters back in those days in the Times Square area. These badly made grindhouse movies would never get a wide release and a lot of people never heard of them. So it seemed fitting Sam never heard of this one. 🙂 I recommend reacting to the 2nd half of the double feature “Planet Terror”. It’s a fun watch!
