This scene is loosely based, unfortunately, on an actual incident in my childhood, and I was trying to capture the bewildering, terrible feeling of looking to an adult for help and instead being unfairly punished. But I felt that in this first draft the teacher is acting almost cartoonishly cruel for no discernible reason, so I wanted to redraw the scene to flesh it out a little more.
