This was always my second favorite Denzel movie after remember the titans. Denzel is clearly the greatest actor of all-time. Great reaction as always.

I feel that Spartan, released around the same time, deserves almost as much recognition. Also -- and this is *very* different from Spartan -- if you want to see Val like you've never seen him before, check out MacGruber (2010).

Maybe you could come up with a month of original/remake pairings. The Thomas Crown Affair (1968)/(1999) also comes to mind. In addition, you could check out some originals where you've already seen the remake or original, like The Thing From Another World (1951), Ocean's Eleven (1960), Dune (1984), and Road House (2024).

Watching you try to work out a messy, trippy mystery is such great fun. I would love, LOVE, to see you react to Triangle (2009). It's a very different story (a horror mystery), but it shares a couple of ideas with Deja Vu. It won't win a poll, but the next time you're in the mood for a true mind-benber, take a chance on it. You'll go down a 2 day rabbit hole after watching it, trying to work out what the hell you just saw.

This is a Great Remake, but i would watch the Original Version First from 1974 with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw ... I also recommend "The Bone Collector" from 1999 as next Denzel ... A great Thriller with Angelina Jolie as Co Star ...

2024-06-21 05:40:54 +0000 UTCI remember liking Mississippi Masala quite a bit when I rented the VHS in '92. Siskel and Ebert loved it(they were the equivalent of Rotten Tomatoes back then, haha). I see it was made part of the Criterion Collection in 2022, guess it has some staying power.

I'm sure it's probably a good recommendation anyway, but I'll come back after seeing it and let you know lol.

Malcolm X, Devil in a Blue Dress, and The Hurricane would be my most emphatic suggestions for where to venture next.

Speaking of which if you want to watch one of the most grounded, well written spy thrillers of all time, SPARTAN starring Val Kilmer. It's fast, doesn't hold your hand, but it's also not trying to be Mission Impossible or James Bond. It feels real.
