My observation has proven the opposite. Take Tango for example, now people swarm Tango more than during the pandemic. And let's not forget that people were trying to save money during the pandemic due to the financial issues. That's why high quality and different content can be a game changer. I don't know that the drop in patrons is wholly attributable to people not wanting to pay for content too similar to YT (though it would be nice if those people who feel that Patreon isn't worth it also realize that since the YT channel lost monetisation, if the creators don't get paid through other platforms either, YT videos will stop too). A pattern that a number of reasonably high % OF creators have noticed that as pandemic restrictions have opened up in more and more places and people are getting to see each other more, online traffic and so on have fallen apace in a mirror of the surge of growth when so many people were stuck without their usual social outlets.

Besides, look at the drop in the number of Patreons. I myself don't care and just want to support. I enjoy some videos anyway. But not all the subscribers will have the same belief! When they can watch the same or similar videos on YT, they prefer not to pay although the fees are perfectly reasonable. Let's not deny that.
