It would have been a real kick in the teeth if the story ended there, but at the same time, they did a great job wrapping up most of the story lines, and if it hadn't been renewed, which was in doubt when they were filming this, it still would have been a fairly satisfying ending, unlike the lack of Endings so many other cancelled shows have had to endure.

I didn't really like him most of the time up until then, but the whole "holden going crazy" plotline was pretty well performed, I thought, and his interactions with the crew have gotten a lot better since then. But the character is inherently boring, because we always know he's going to do the "right thing" no matter what. He's like the straight man in a comedy that way, he's the rock that all the more interesting waves break and swirl around. Because of the way this show is always evolving and growing its characters having Holden remain as our one constant helps the storytelling, but I don't know if he'll ever get to be great in his own right.
