Wholeheartedly agree. I'm hoping the Academy gives this film and everyone involved some love.

The whole situation between Colm and Padraic plays out as the Irish Civil War was happening on the mainland in 1923. Sides fighting and no one really understanding why, especially if you're on the outside as they are on the Island. Barry Keoghan is a great actor and he's finally getting awards notice (as well as Kerry Condon, I loved both characters). Dominic is like you said the true tragic character, just there in the background. You sometimes don't notice or we don't allow ourselves to notice things until it's too late. Unfortunately, I've experienced this in life. The scene where he pours his heart out to Siobhan, so well acted. I recommend Dunkirk if you're a fan of his acting and it's a brilliant film. As far as this Director he had a movie (Academy Award winning) a few years back called Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Great cast, script and direction. A heavy film but one that has tones of redemption through tragedy. Ok, rambling as always (damn love for movies lol)...looking forward to the redo of the Instagram chat and your Dinner and a Movie pick. All the best 🎬

This was easily my favourite film of last year, both because of how darkly entertaining it's performances, screenplay and general vibe are, but also from how relatable its depiction of broken relationships is. Having a film that was able to comment on how easy it is to simultaneously feel empathy and hatred for certain people in your life just from them being themselves, and to feel both justified and ashamed about it really made me connect with this one. This solidifies Martin McDonagh in the top tier of current directors for me. Cassie, if you haven't seen his other films, I'd stromgly recommend them! Banshees cleaned up pretty well at the BAFTAS over here (well, I'm in Scotland, so close enough) last night, but I somehow don't see it having quite the success at the Oscars. Will be interesting to see though.
