I feel a lot like blue shirt Picard. Troi tells him that his main problem is with follow through and Q tells him that he always plays it safe. This has always been my difficulty. I’m also rewatching Lost right now, and I’m struck by how much the Desmond character’s background is such a coward. This makes me think that blue shirt Picard’s problems in Starfleet would also be his same problems in his life. No, he wouldn’t have a family, nor would he be an accomplished flautist. He would never work hard enough at these things to accomplish anything. There probably are very accomplished astrophysicists, but blue shirt Picard wouldn’t be one of those guys. He would be the guy who just gets by.

Did I miss Matt’s Seinfeld bass riff??????
