It's always more difficult for the loved ones, well at least that was my experience. I'm sure you know by now, but the when Angel and Buffy were at the docks it was Spike and Dru's henchman who attacked them to steal back the arm in the box, remember Dru gave the the vamp with glasses one last chance and it was he who got the box back along with another 2 vamps at the docks.

Sending you hugs about your nan. I've been through the same thing with my mum so I know how you feel.
