'Honeymoon' by Lana Del Rey: Full Reaction

'Honeymoon' by Lana Del Rey: Full Reaction

Comments

hello from a newbie! Firstly, I wanna say that for me Honeymoon- that anxiety inducing and eary sound o n a honeymoon exist in terms of honeymoon phase, all fun and very euphoric time of realationship but baaaby at what price- horrible, terrifying and even traumatic experience. Knowing what will happen next, like in thriller movies-it starts as so positive movie and then yuu are sitting alone in the dark night and are just empty of words, shocked, feeling compassion. So even if she wrote some of the words while happy in first moments, the after-thought was that it took such a dark turn that reliving that again is anxiety inducing for her, feeling sick at how much sweet love and empathy she had, apologizing for being vulerable, the pain she took, had. Writing your own alternate scenario, in which honeymoon phase lasted longer, allowing the main character to fully experience pure lust for love and love. Secondly, now after you listened to Put me in a movie, you know that High by the beach fragment "lights, camera, áccion-I'll do it on my own, don't need your money, money" is full circle from Lizzy's "lights, camera, áccion-You know I can't make it on my own, Put me in a movie (...) You can be my daddy" (old hollywood). And if that ain't about personal growth, I don't know what is. Like working through your trauma and having muuuch more strength. Aaaah watching your films I feel like introducing my new friend to Lana and listening to all her input and interprations, I love it, I'm here for it guuurl. Grab my snacks, coctails and talk to you on a monitor, feeling so excited to show you and talk about all of her albums. We claim you honey and I hope ypu stick with it.

The trailer almost feels like necessary preparation for just how different Lust For Life is from her previous albums. I'm sure people can roll with the changes, but it helped me to prepare for the change. I think I'd heard the singles 'Lust For Life' and 'Love' though, so I knew there had been a bit of a change in her approach though before I saw the trailer. But the trailer is still fun!

I'm really enjoying revisiting Lana's earlier albums and listening to songs that I didn't really like that much initially, but are kind of getting under my skin now.

Hi! I joined Patreon as I really wanted to recommend that you watch (and maybe react to?) the album trailer for Lust For Life on YouTube and my YouTube comments about it kept vanishing for some reason! I assume that was some automatic thing and you weren't deleting them? It's just that the trailer gives a real sense of her state of mind when she was making the album, and is also fun. It has a witchy feel to it! 😀 It gives you a sense of what to expect from the album.

This was a great surprise today because I haven't been feeling well and this just made the day so much better. So thank you for that. I've been waiting for this one. Honeymoon is my favorite Lana album. I love all the strings. It's so serene and hypnotic. I still listen to it constantly.

Have you heard Young & Beautiful yet?

Sean Stuart

The last song is a cover, it was originally recorded by the legendary, Nina Simone in 1964 and then in 1965, it was cover by the classic rock band, The Animals. Lana's cover is closer to the Nina Simone version.

Western Canadian Guy

Terrence was the name of David Bowie's brother who suffered from schizophrenia and passed away. This song is reportedly partly tribute to him (hence the Bowie lyric reference in the bridge), but also reportedly to Lana's ex-boyfriend - musician Barrie-James O'Neill - who apparently struggles with severe depression. The Blackest Day is reportedly about him too. Love your Lana reactions so much!

Melissa Reynolds

I can't wait to give this a listen this weekend. Hope all is well 🙂
