2020-11-12 00:46:13 +0000 UTCDenis Villeneuve is my favorite director of the last decade. Every movie he made is a masterpiece. This is my third favorite of his, Prisoners at number 2 and Blade Runner 2049 at number 1. I was so excited to see Dune this year. Unfortunately the movie has been posponed an entire year. 😢

2020-11-01 09:34:23 +0000 UTCThis is a really good movie, maybe in my top 5 of the decade. But rewatching this movie, at least the first half, made me realize it’s not very suited for reactions

2020-11-01 04:57:13 +0000 UTCSo as you said when checking if it was the same director as Ad Astra, this movie was by Denis Villeneuve. His films you may know are Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015), then there was Arrival in 2016, Blade Runner 2049 in 2017, and the delayed Dune movie that was supposed to come out this December. I absolutely love this movie...I like sci-fi in general, and I like sci-fi like this that has a nice calm pace and deals with the human reaction to something extraordinary, similar to Contact with Jodie Foster in 1997. I also love when movies have scientists and the like do thinky stuff rather than having to put some sort of blaster in their hands and make them an action hero just because it's sci-fi. Don't get me wrong, I love that stuff too, but movies like Arrival and Contact and Annihilation or maybe even Sphere are great because they show discovery and bravery and exploration, etc. in a way that feels more grounded in a reality I could relate to, a skillset I could more likely actually have.
