My Hero Academia REACTION - 5x20 & 5x21

You’re a good man, Jimmy Macram. Really appreciate you reading the comments. I know the very first part is jarring, but… I’d say it’s on par with how 5x13 opens. And once you’re in, you’re in. Few things: *This is my and most people’s first or second favorite arc of the manga, but if it feels rushed, it’s because it is. This was 9 fucking chapters squeezed into these two episodes. They condense a lot, but it’s still pretty great. *For time reference, the villains meeting the Doctor (and say, does that Doctor look familiar at all? 👀) occurs just before Endeavor’s big fight last season. That’s why the doc mentions a High End Nomu he wants Dabi to try out. *Gigantomachia is the giant from Kirishima’s flashback in S4, and the guy who interfered when Gran Torino arrested kurogimi. *You are meant to recognize Slide-n-Go’s doofy looking ass as the hero who took over when Bakugo and Todoroki stopped those thugs last time. Goes to show that meta liberation is an ideal not necessarily tied to heroes vs villains. ==== And now to be annoying, here’s relevant shit cut from the anime: *MVA in the manga starts with a weirdly heartwarming subplot of the League of Villains taking over a church from some bigots. It shows them as a team pretty much united in poverty, on their last legs, which makes their resilience against Machia even more impressive *Re-Destro fully cries when he learns that Curious and so many of his soldiers died. It shows how tight the group was, which you can sort of surmise based on the sheer amount of time it would have taken for a group to infiltrate so many avenues of Japanese society, like news and politics. *Giran gets a little more love in the manga. You see him beaten and tortured and still mocking his captors even more while refusing to sell out his clients. He’s OG. *Theres also a very early scene showing Re-Destro using his powers to kill a subordinate for being disloyal. I actually like this omission; the “bad guy kills henchman” trope is overdone and I love that we don’t immediately know what Re-Destro can do or why he is the leader of this pretty formidable army, other than his lineage.
